The carnival season in Greece is also known as the Apokries (Greek: Απόκριες, literally it means "saying goodbye to meat"), and it is the 3 weeks immediately before the Clean Monday, whereas Clean Monday marks the beginning of great lent (fasting period before Easter).
During the carnival season, people dress themselves as masqueraders to go to parties.
The city of Patras holds the largest annual carnival in Greece, it is a 3-day spectacle with music, masked troupes, and floats, with the grand final parade being held at noon on the Sunday right before Clean Monday.
In many other regions, festivities of smaller extent are organized, this video was taken at Paralio Astros, it is the first time for the Apokries carnival to be held here.
