“We are not personally responsible for what people who look like us did centuries ago. But we are responsible for what good or ill we do to people alive with us today. We are, each of us, responsible for every decision we make that hurts or harms another human being. We are responsible for recognizing that what happened in previous generations at the hands of or to people who look like us set the stage for the world we now live in and that what has gone before us grants us advantages or burdens through no effort or fault of our own, gains or deficits that others who do not look like us often do not share.” - Isabel Wilkerson, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.

Heavenly father, we pray this morning for responsibility in our actions for ourselves and others. We pray that in our lives we are guided to know when we are called to act in a responsible manner. Help us to know that as we are called to faithful action that we are called to act responsibly in how we act.

We pray that we know of the protections you provide in the world. We pray for wise decisions by our leaders but also wise decisions by us as we live in the world with others. We pray that as your Disciples we act responsibly towards others and that they so act towards us. Amen
1 Corinthians 9:16-17 16 If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel! 17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.

This is the WORD of the LORD. Thanks be to GOD.
