New firmware update for E mount version of this lens removed the autofocus speed limitation when on the A9III allowing up to 120fps.

Very thorough and concise review Richard, thanks. It's too bad for Sigma that they took so long to release this lens. I picked up the Sony 70-200 GM2 over a year ago, but I would have considered this lens if it was available, for the cost and also because I prefer black lens bodies. That said, I have no regrets with the Sony version, and I love the reduced weight and handhold-ability.

Thank you for another excellent and complete review. As a new S5iiX owner, I am definitely interested in this lens. I have plenty of experience with heavy lenses like the Tamron 35-150 in E mount, and might hold off to see if something similar becomes available for L mount later this year. If not, this lens looks like a fine option.

+1 vote for comparison to Panasonic 70-200 2.8. interesting in stabilizer. As I know dual IS doesn't work with non Panasonic glass (ois only). and also interesting in sharpness comparison.

Do you plan to compare it with the Panasonic versions?

Great review as always! This is on my shortlist for my L-mount gear, but I don't know if I'm ready to give up my Olympus 40-150/2.8 with MFT quite yet!

Great review Richard...unfortunately I will keep my Lumix 70-200mm F2.8 ... I was hoping that Sigma will do lighter and better lens... Lumix one still beast 💪

Does dual stabilization work on E mount or L mount versions?

Seems like it was not thought out or engineered well for users. The bracket, hood and switches could be updated, given other companies are making better designs. Looks like a nice lens, but it's a traditional heavy Sigma lens. I was hoping Sigma would up their game and follow other manufacturers towards smaller and lighter lenses on mirrorless bodies
