You ask, I answer. Enjoy the first Q&A!

About Man vs History:
Man vs History is a YouTube channel that endeavors to combine both education and entertainment, specifically related to history. While the focus of the channel will expand beyond analyzing the historical accuracy of RDO, for the time being, there's still more quality videos to come on the topic.

For the past decade I've been history professor at the college level. The knowledge and skills I acquired through my educational journey and profession are put to work in the creation of these videos, allowing me to locate rare primary source materials, analyze them carefully, and coherently deliver the content in an entertaining and educational manner. For each one I conduct an immense amount of research, scouring American and British archives, books, and scholarly journal articles. Gratefully, my profession also grants me access to a network of historical experts & specialists including authors, university professors, and museum curators. I hope you enjoy the end result!

Fair Use Disclaimer:
The fair use doctrine in U.S. copyright law allows individuals to use copyrighted material to create original works. It includes criticism, news reporting, research, and derivative works. Many YouTube videos may use music or other snippets of other creations.

Outtro music is my own creation, titled 'Big Game Phil'. It took me all of 20 seconds to create on Drumbit, so I trust everyone is deeply impressed. It will surely become huge.

Best thing in 2020: finding this channel. Honestly man you could do another QNA for the next video

I’m a student and I would love to take a class that you teach.

Q: How do you explain to a loved one or friend the itch that RDR and its world scratches for someone who appreciates the Old West, 1800's, history, etc. In other words...how do you convince (or better yet, show) them how a mere video game touches a part of one's soul similar to how a book or real-life experience would?

Thanks partner. Love your videos!

Just recently got introduced to the channel, so happy I found it! I go through creek bottoms and timber lines here in Midwest Illinois cutting out hedge to make post for cattle. All the left over wood that won’t work for post, my buddies and I make duck calls on wooden lathes and stuff. Great wood!

Video suggestion: Cults in late 19th century and historical accuracy of once in RD2

I'm stoked when I find other pro second amendment YouTubers. We need as many supporters as possible during times like these. I like it when I find out someone on YouTube that I've enjoyed the content from for awhile is pro second amendment.

Hands down most unique and insightful RDO content. Keep up the great work.

Teddy is by far the best president of all time, you can't debate that fact. You definitely run the best history/hunting centered channel on YouTube, that fact is also not debatable ha.

Love your work and perspective on red dead. I have a degree in history born from a childhood obsession with the outdoors and American history. I love your content. You’re doing great work

Would you be interested in talking about native Americans and how they tied into the late 1800s? I think red Dead redemption 2 just jumps clear over that. Most likely to avoid legal issues and avoid misrepresenting.

Really enjoying binge watching you’re videos, was cool to see you have an interest in Scottish history since I’m from here 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I grew up in alot of the ways you did. Hunting fishing and trapping. I also love history yet when i'm asked about my favorite history book, i always say'Where The Red Fern Grows' i know its not really a history book but it is for me. Shout out from an old Montana guy, love your vids!

I’m actually really fascinated that you’re so involved with history. I’m majoring in history in college as of right now, I would like to teach it in the future, and I’m wondering what exactly your job is and what was the path you took to get where you are right now?

Very interesting channel, combining one of my favorite video games with one of my favorite subjects. I studied enough of the time period to have a decent idea of how accurate some things in the game are, but definitely not nearly to the extent you've explored. I think I've watched 4 videos now and will definitely be watching some more.

You sound like an awesome teacher, wish I could have taken your class while I was in school.

I'm an active duty Marine that is about to retire. I've been training to get a service dog. Due to family members having allergies, I'm going to be getting a Standard Poodle. I've been doing a lot of research on them to find one, and have discovered their rich history in regards to hunting. I thought this was kind of cool, since I discovered hunting much later in life than most and love it because I find it to be therapeutic.
I'd love to see you cover a little bit about them, including the seemingly stupid haircuts they get on why they originally had these haircuts. Including why they're likely included in Saint Denis and that other town that is escaping me right now.
Edit:
(RHODES! that was the name of the town that I couldn't think of... lol)

Nothing compares to a Phil story. And very little of the story surprises me.

I can tell we have a lot of similar opinions on history and politics just from this Q & A. I'm currently struggling with many of the things I'm being forced to teach at university at the moment: white privilege, male privilege, and anti racism. I like to think I pushed back pretty hard with my graduate thesis. Even so, it's still hard to push concepts that you want to deconstruct, but I'm afraid of rocking the boat or putting my job in jeopardy. It is very self defeating. If I get into the Ph.D. of my choice for fall 2021, then I think I'll start pushing back even harder. Hopefully I can catch one of those posse events with you some time and get your opinion on modern academia and its failings.

Also, do you have any plans to make a video on the Lewis and Clark expedition? I just finished reading Stephen Ambrose's book on the subject, and the accounts of the wildlife, hunting, fishing and exploration were absolutely fascinating and I would love to hear more about it.
