Aston Martin is building 25 DB5 Bond cars - with REAL gadgets

54 years after its production run ended, Aston Martin is resurrecting the iconic DB5 and building 25 more units - with a twist. Inspired by the James Bond franchise that Aston has become the synonymous with, these Goldeneye Edition DB5s will feature functional gadgets and weapons like those adorning 007’s car.

Is this £2.7 million the coolest machine ever built? Or an overpriced piece of movie memorabilia? Have your say in the comments.

A tad pointless if it can't be used on the road?

I'd prefer they just built 25 road legal replicas without any of the Bond stuff.

As said before just build the replica without the gadgets. It is a beautiful sportscar that deserves to be driven

I think they should build a road worthy Aston Martin DB5 straight up. In silver just like this.

The most expensive paperweight for the discerning collector!

Might be useless if it's not street legal. But, at this price point I think the people might there own roads to play with it!!
And yes, it's super cool!!

I'd prefer a road-legal one, thank you.

I can see one of these rolling onto Barrett Jackson a year after they're built!

Honestly, I'd as soon have a straight-up DB5, perhaps with some 21st century updates to the engine, running hardware, springs, shocks and tires. Adding a fifth and perhaps a sixth gear to the transmission wouldn't hurt either. The whiz-bang gadgetry I can live without, thankuverymuch!

just re-introduce the db5 without the gadgets.

We are so grateful, that there is a car manufacturer i.e Aston Martin, who´s got the guts to produce such over the top toys, machines ...whatever. And makes dreams from the childhood of the new owners come true, or gives them a little bit of Bond panache. Play hard, guys ;)

Making these 25 x DB5 cars as interactive museum fixtures globally with annual S.T.E.M. live educational demonstrations is the seriously missed UK creative design opportunity here.

Id rather have a road legal Aston that looks like this than any current sports car of any make

I love the idea - but you totally lost me at "not road legal" - cars a ment to be driven.

So, I am thinking of building a continuation model of the 1954 Tyco YoYo. Models will come unpainted without lightning bolts or string (liability issues). Original wood body will be plastic(recycled). Units will become available in Spring 2032. Prices assembled are projected to come in around $493.02 US. Un-assembled units will be available in 2034 at a slightly higher cost. Painted units may become available dependent on interest, early in 2035. These items will be for pick-up only. Interested parties should examine their sense of reality.

The fact that it's an over-the-top toy makes it the coolest car ever

I wonder if they updated the video screen in the dash that Bond used to track Goldfinger's car. It's pretty old school by today's standards!

Even as a kid, that slide up rear window bullet shield annoyed me. I had the Corgi diecast model and couldn’t understand why the real car wouldn’t have just had bulletproof rear glass. 😂

This is one reason why Aston Martin is great 😎
