While not absolutely certain I believe this performance by John Prine and Steve Goodman was during The Philadelphia Folk Festival on April 7, 1973. They closed their performance with a medley of Hank Williams, Senior's fabulous hit songs. Information to the contrary is most welcome. I'm having a time identifying this performance.

John and Steve are writing and playing together again. I'll wait and listen to them when I get there. RIP

I first had a connection with Steve in Jan '73. Riding a motorcycle from Houston, Texas back to Ft. Lee, Va after Xmas leave. Somewhere in Alabama or Georgia I was slowly passing a loooong freight train riding about 200-300 yards north of the highway and realized I was singing "City of New Orleans". To this day 47 years later riding towards my next adventure I find myself singing that song not knowing if I'm singing it again or never stopped.

Steve and John are Chicago. Steve and John are American Folk Music. Steve left us all too early. John hung in there as long as he could. That's Chicago. RIP.

They both appeared together at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis in the late 70's...suddenly Steve asked for a cowboy hat and boots from the audience. Some got thrown on stage and he put them on. They did another 40 minutes of Hank...they wore out the full house from clapping and cheering. A fun, wild night with these two guys...never saw a better concert in my life...

I grew up a little south of him, but I do not miss them. Thanks to youtube, I still have them. They are in a better place and I can search & dig for years and I'll keep finding Gold. They ain't gone and they ain't forgotten. They are just broadcasting from Heaven now.

Love all 3 of them. Never heard steve until 2001 and i adored him. Makes me want to cry tho as i watch Hank. My dad played guitar and sang his music. He was good too. He dressed a lot like him . The hat, slacks. Slim built, handsome. Thanks for the reminiscing. Im 74, so its a lot of years. Love country music.

I was privileged to see them play a Hank medley at Cambridge Fold Festival in the UK that summer. They had so much fun together. Both total legends.

All of these songs were favorites of my late father. Songs I cut my teeth on, and they're still stuck on me.
