Boy With Cerebral Palsy Wins Wrestling Match

Footage of West Branch High School student Lucas Lacina pinning his opponent was shared on Facebook by his mother, Jill Winger-Lacina, on November 25. She can be heard cheering her son on in the footage.

Winger-Lacina said said her son’s opponent, named Austin, showed sportsmanship and kindness during the match. " He had an amazing heart and he was patient and helped Lucas try to put to work the moves he has been practicing all season," she wrote on Facebook.

“What I love the most though is the end when he helps Lucas off the mat where he is cheered on by his whole team, she wrote. “Sportsmanship and inclusion at it’s finest.”

The young man in blue showed sportsmanship and honor. The young man in red showed determination and courage. Both have wonderful parents and coaches. The very best to them.

Man I love how the young man in blue gave him just a little bit of a fight. Made him earn the win. Didn’t just roll over so easily. Too many times we patronize those with special needs by just immediately giving them a win. I believe he showed even more compassion and care by giving the young man in red an actual fight. This kid made him earn a win. Much respect young man!!!

That kid in blue is a hero without a cape. He was raised to know that there is more to life than taking the easy win. He could have slammed the kid in red and won in a couple of seconds but he chose to be a brilliant human being and be a role model for millions of others. I hope he has an amazing life.
