Bodycam footage shows an Ohio man turning himself in for “accidentally” shooting and killing his female friend on March 26. Fifty-eight-year-old Brian E. Mason calmly confessed to shooting 57-year-old Michelle L. Elliott while he was allegedly showing her how to use a pistol. Miami County deputies later investigated the scene and found Elliott dead from a gunshot wound. Mason was taken into custody on the spot and arraigned on a murder charge on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty.

If this man is telling the truth and it was an accident he totally screwed himself by not dialing 911 right away.

No reasonable thinking person would delay getting help for a friend they accidentally shoot. His story is just not believable.

When he starts talking about how much of a nightmare she was to be around in the interrogation room that’s a clear this was no mistake

It’s crazy how unfazed some cops are about hearing the most random stuff.

He confessed to that murder like he was reporting a downed power line.

This happened in my town. He plead the murder charge down to manslaughter and was sentenced 8 years with 148 days credited for time served.

Here is factual info: This occurred on March 28, 2023. The man is Brian Mason, age 58, arrested in Miami County, Ohio. Her name was Michelle Elliott, age 57, living in the home in which she was killed. Brian was homeless, living in his car. They had known each other for years, but were not dating. She had offered him a small job at the house to earn a little money, after they ran into each other in the small town they lived in. Everything else is still pending. He is in jail with no way to pay the high bond, as of Easter 2023.

These officers handled this extremely well. Very professional. I've been in law enforcement since 2016 and it's good to see such professional officers.

Just a word of advice, if you’re ever going to turn yourself in, maybe stop by a lawyers office and ask them to help you do it. Every single word you say to a cop, no matter how inconsequential, no matter how small or “helpful” you’re trying to be, can be used to put you in prison for the rest of your life. A lawyer will certainly help you turn yourself in, but they’ll make sure you don’t screw yourself in the process

He thinks if he acts like a nice guy and turns himself in then surely they’ll believe it was an accident!

“Wait here with him.” “Don’t go in the car, just sit here with it.” This cop is solid and knows how to run a potential crime scene. Very calm, professional, and thorough.

God forbid it ever happens to anyone reading this, but if something terrible happens to a friend or a family member and it genuinely was an accident, call 911. As scary as a situation like that is, don’t make it worse for yourself by not calling emergency services to try and help that person.

Notice he is saying bad things about her, often murders do that so you see them as someone who is the victim and the person they murdered is the bad person.

He made sure his victim was dead so only one side of the story could be told.

This dude is toast. You can't "accidentally" kill somebody then go on to say things like IT WAS HARD TO BE AROUND HER. THATS WHAT WE ARGUED ABOUT ALL THE TIME. you got to be like it was all an accident I loved her very much she was a great friend.

I appreciate that both the officer and the suspect remained respectful and relaxed throughout the entire process

Only he knows if it was an accident or not. Running away made him look guilty, some people don't think rationally when unders great stress. A single shot would suggest an accident but confessing that they sometimes didn't get along is suspicious. One thing that is certain is that you don't speak to the police until you have a lawyer..

Cops handled this extremely well, didn’t try to escalate or anything and just calmly tried to get the information that they needed while also making sure that this guy was detained and as calm as possible.

He failed her twice, people can make excuses all they want. I have no idea how you let your friend bleed out from your mistake and you just run away, sad story all round but he deserves to be punished

I can't imagine being an officer and having to deal with the things they have to see. I think small children being in bad situations would be the worst part of being able to deal with the problem adult in the "correct" and seeing accidents.... My prayers and admiration go out to all the good officers out there doing a job that 99% of couldn't do.
