As someone who's been on a plane ride before, unless someone is actively trying to have a conversation to ease their nerves (first time flyers as well as myself did this) about flying, you are not legally obligated to talk to them.

Is it actually proper etiquette to talk to people you sit by? I know that there’s a lot of people that would think it’s a bother, and I’m one of them, but I also hear stories of people having nice conversations on planes, so am I really supposed to do that?
