Track 2 from their fourth studio album "Brothers & Sisters" released in 1973 copyright Capricorn Records. "Brothers and Sisters" shipped with Gold status, and was certified Platinum in 1995. Having just overcome the loss of Duane a year earlier, tragedy again struck the band when Berry Oakley died, also in a motorcycle accident, in November of 1972. Lamar Williams joined the band on bass going forward. This was also Chuck Leavell's first album as the new member on piano. Special guests were session guitarists Les Dudek & Tommy Talton. It became their best selling album. Written by Dickie Betts and produced by Johnny Sandlin & The Allman Brothers Band. Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

My father was a gambler down in Georgia
And he wound up on the wrong end of a gun
And I was born in the backseat of a, a Greyhound bus
Rollin' down highway 41

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
When it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

Alright!

I'm on my way to New Orleans this mornin'
Leavin’ out of Nashville, Tennessee
They’re always havin’ a good time down on the bayou, Lord
Them Delta women think the world of me

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Lord, I was born a ramblin' man

Just got home from a cancer treatment...felt a little tired so I opened up youtube. Came across this and man did it bring back memories. Gonna sleep good tonight and tomorrow I'm gonna dig out all my Allman Brothers LP'S and just waste the day by going back in time. This 70 something year old lived thru and experienced the best music ever. Rock on all you Old Farts.

This is one of the greatest songs ever written in my opinion. Not only does it cheer me up it soeaks to me. But it also makes me a little sad too. RIP Duane. ( Going to Duane's Tune from DB's Pattern Disruptive record next) Thats the definition of a great song.

This song reminds me of my father. He liked the line about being born in the backseat of a greyhound bus. Rest In Peace, pop.
