I recently told myself that “I’m going to be loyal to myself instead of being loyal to any company”‼️

Climb the ladder of your craft, not the company.

I’m 68 and retired with a pension. I totally agree that corporations lost their soul when defined benefit pension plans were replaced with the 401k. It’s hard out there, and I wish all of you the very best! My advice is don’t sacrifice your health for a company. Take care of yourself both mentally and physically, eat healthy, exercise and take time off for the things you enjoy.

Modern corporations is the real villain. I have 0 will to climb the corporate ladder anymore

Let's also normalize job hopping. Careers don't have to be developed at only one company.

One of the most ridiculous interview questions at the moment is "Where do you see yourself in 5 Years?"
The reason I think so is simply that employers don't guarantee 5 years. 😮

My grandfather, his father, and his father all worked for Armor meat packing in Chicago for their entire careers, retired fully pensioned. My mom and dad had three jobs between them their entire careers. I've had three jobs in one year. Half the companies I worked for don't even exist anymore. My last "permanent" job with salary and benefits was 1996. IT went almost entirely to contracting after 2001 and 2008. I've spent more time looking for work than I have employed in the last 10 years. All savings are gone. I'm 70 years old. Retirement? I'll have to take a half day off to go to my funeral. My kids all have degrees and none of them are working in their fields, when they do have work. One makes sandwiches. This is not the world I thought I would live in as an adult.

I work for a prominent lab company. When COVID happened, we got all kinds of bonuses for our "essential" jobs. It was the last time we got a real pay increase.

Somewhere, at the top, we need to stop treating each other as disposable.

I can't believe how timely this is. I was just denied promotion again and this time because of promotion/hiring freeze. A lot of promotions and hires.

According to Google the average home price in the U.S. is now $495k in 2024. Meanwhile, the average salary is around $50k.

Yes, I got a raise from my company in December, but I'm leaving due to a toxic manager who keeps not approving my entire time card and tries to gaslight me about it. Whenever I mention HR, suddenly it's approved.

You need to create your own business and become a digital nomad. These corporations are hell bent on getting rid of you

What's irritating is brand new employees start at a higher pay than senior employees sometimes. And when you bring it up to your boss they just give a shameless "so what" response. Job hopping is better for your career in some cases. I've literally shown them a screenshot from job hiring sites like "here's what pay you're hiring brand new people, here's what i make" and they just don't even care.

Thank you! I felt like I was going crazy. Less mentorship, less promotions, but still they want you to smile and be grateful.

I turn down every promotion at my contracting job. I just want the money. No chatty, no smoochie, just cash to invest.

I just want to pay my bills comfortably with a job I can tolerate, is that too much to ask for?

It's game over for worker bees. Point Blank. If you're not becoming an innovator or creator, you're going to find yourself stuck on the sidelines with the other worker bees. The middle class is finished. A person can now operate a billion-dollar company with 5 employees. It's a new world now.

Barbara Moses was saying in the 90s "Welcome to tempworld" where all jobs are temporary. I think a lot of that started with the massive downsizing in the early 90s
