CHFA vs FHA - Which is better? | Colorado Housing & Finance Authority

Wondering which is better...CHFA or FHA? Well, both CHFA and FHA are great options for first time home buyers but the good news is that neither of these require you to be a first time home buyer.

So, then it comes down to understanding the differences between FHA and CHFA, but really it is about understanding WHAT CHFA is and WHAT FHA is. From there we can understand when it is best to use CHFA or just FHA.

CHFA has two loan programs that can be used with FHA including CHJFA FirstStep (if you're a first time home buyer) and SmartStep. Both of these can be combined with down payment assistance, if you need that.

I sat through one of those chfa meetings. People starting walking out when they said you have to sell to another person going through the same program. Not having the freedom to sell to whoever you want for how much you're offered it's a no no. Unless there are no strings attached such as this, is not worth
