How To Open a Electric Vehicle BLDC Motor | MEV Students Dismantling BLDC Motor, Identification of BLDC Motor Parts, and Assembling it again at Govt ITI HB Halli.

BLDC motor structure consists of two parts, namely permanent magnet rotor and stator. The rotor magnet is part of a moving BLDC motor, while the stator is a part of the engine that is not moving and is made of three-phase coils.

Fundamentals of operation

The BLDC motor’s electronic commutator sequentially energizes the stator coils generating a rotating electric field that ‘drags’ the rotor around with it. N “electrical revolutions” equates to one mechanical revolution, where N is the number of magnet pairs.

For a three-phase motor, three Hall-effect sensors are embedded in the stator to indicate the relative positions of stator and rotor to the controller so that it can energize the windings in the correct sequence and at the correct time. The Hall sensors are usually mounted on the non-driving end of the unit.

Hall Sensors
Hall sensor provides the information to synchronize stator armature excitation with rotor position. Since the commutation of BLDC motor is controlled electronically, the stator windings should be energized in sequence in order to rotate the motor. Before energizing a particular stator winding, acknowledgment of rotor position is necessary. So the Hall Effect sensor embedded in stator senses the rotor position.

Most BLDC motors incorporate three Hall sensors which are embedded into the stator. Each sensor generates Low and High signals whenever the rotor poles pass near to it. The exact commutation sequence to the stator winding can be determined based on the combination of these three sensor’s response.
