The colour of the brick is an interesting touch. At one point, lapis was considered more precious than gold. Perhaps veneering the brick with copper to give it the appearance of lapis, and using the term 'pure blue stone, ' was to show the sheer wealth of the city and make people think it was the more expensive precious stone?

Thanks to the various museums that have saved these fantastic artifacts from destruction by the fundamentalists, so they can be studied preserved restored and copied, instead of being churned into gravel

He definitely knew kingdoms will come and go. Babylon being on top of his dream in which Daniel through God told him about it and the interpretation of his dream. Interesting in deed.

I don't think it's idol worship at all. They're historians interested in the history of the time.

How did it look when it was first discovered? Any images of the gate in Babylon where it was first found? How was it transported to Germany?

Is it possible these are glazed surfaces as is used on colored pottery? That would explain the thin chipping seen in the close ups.
