I remember being on 4chan regularly 2006-2009, it’s insane how huge of an influence it’s had in modern times and not in a small way in a very significant way. The term MEME and the memes alone come from 4chan. Specifically I have memories of certain memes starting the very birth of popular memes that are now a regular part of culture. It’s crazy and I don’t think any of gen z really understands the origin of how it was mainstreamed. It’s something I often think about, how this sort of “underground” website influenced a generation and the generations to come…forever. It’s crazy to me.
