In a nutshell, the emperor has no clothes. Prof. Wolff is right on. I could only laugh because it's so true and so tragic. I am afraid only that the moment of reckoning is farther away than he seems to believe.

I’m always pleasantly surprised that when you think you have heard everything prof Wolff has to say, you realize you haven’t. I listened to his argument on another channel regarding the issue of student debt which I’d been arguing for (and getting clobbered by people w conflict of interests; they had student debt) since there’s more than one kind of debt. Also the people that decided not to go because of the debt, or decided against going to a more prestigious university because of cost. Anyhow, that was very enlightening.

Richard Wolf is always great, but man, he's really knocking it out of the park in this one.

Sophistry has won over every field, art world as well as economics. "Technocrats' what will become of us if we can't educate people out of this?

Loved this conversation. I have the feeling that the conversation is going past the tutorial stage to world building. The tutorial stage was golden, I just want to begin to visualize a better system.

I would love to hear professor Wolff go on a rip like this when he's had a few scotches, or beverage of choice. 🙂 I have a feeling the sarcasm would be epic! I never get tired of hearing from this treasure of a teacher.

Richard Wolff account of economic classes about students asking questions that they shouldn't, reminds me about my religion classes when students asked questions for which they were rebuked and which teachers weren't prepared to answer

Economics has become little more than the apologetics of dogma.

This analysis of contemporary economics is so insightful and so true, yet so many miss it! That's the part that baffles me. This country's absolutely overflowing with aimless, exhausted, horribly unhappy people, drugged to the eyeballs, one way or another, and still we pretend that corporate-driven, consumer capitalism is the best of all possible worlds! It's heartbreaking - and yes, pathological, for sure.

Eskow got a very unique and interesting interview out of Wolff. I really liked seeing into some of the inner workings of Harvard and how the US teaches economics.

Makes me wonder if financial advisors tend to have economic degrees, because many of them seem to have gone to jargon-school too.

I suffered an analogous experience in my discipline of linguistics when I studied for my doctorate. The think-as-we-do-or-else in the academy of all places drove me out. It was like attending a political or religious indoctrination camp.

Very disappointed to learn that despite the sloganeering to the contrary, the academy can be just as small-minded and conformist as every other human endeavor.

Thirty five years later, I’m still upset over the forced fleeing.

Pollution is overwhelmingly the result of the actions of massive corporations and the US military. To put the onus on individual citizens of affecting change is silly, putting it nicely.

Did the Engineer who designed WTC #7 have his career end when their building collapsed due to "office fires"??? I think not.

Communists use lies to seize control of the means of violence, and then use that violence against anyone who opposes them, foreign or domestic (but mostly domestic).

People in power don't want really educated civilians because then there'd be more intelligent people like the professors understanding and telling people what the ignorant and Greedy are trying to do behind smoke screens.

Sad really...the contributions of scholars in this field find no appreciation in Americans.
The disadvantage to this is that Americans are out of touch with the progress of those contributions that have gone from book to reality.
