Staurolite - heavy mineral strewn slide

Показать описание
This is a detrital grain of staurolite under the polarization microscope.
It was extracted from beach sand collected near Kolobrzeg, Baltic Sea, Poland.
This is not a thin section, but a strewn slide prepared for heavy mineral analysis, so grains have variable thicknesses. For more information, see Mange & Maurer (1992).
All my heavy mineral strewn slides are prepared using Meltmount with a refractive index n = 1.662.
This teaching video was realized at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), Department of Materials and Earth Sciences, Institute of Applied Geosciences, Working Group of Applied Sedimentary Geology.
