I had a strange experience with my bank almost 20 years ago. I had a safety deposit box there and paid the fee in February for the year. I took the receipt with me. Sometime later, I got a notice saying my fee had not been paid, and my box would be drilled. I took my receipt back to the bank, and they made a copy and said it was all taken care of. Later on, I got another letter. I took that receipt to the bank 4 times to prove the fee had been paid. After the 4th time, they promised me their records were accurate and everything was fine with my box. About a month later, I got another letter telling me my box had been drilled and the contents moved to the downtown branch. To say I was mad was an understatement! I went downtown and picked up my stuff. It had all been inventoried, and everything I remembered appeared to be there. I took my things with me, and on the way out closed out my accounts with that bank for good! To this day I wonder what they were looking for.

"Bank employees cannot open a box without the customer's keys"... This is the Lock Picking Lawyer, and what I have for you today...

If banks arent responsible for keeping items safe, then it gives them incentive to steal.

This is why you buy a small fireproof safe and
imbed it somewhere in your own home. Banks have
cameras everywhere. They could find who stole her money.

I went to a bank to get a safety deposit box and was shocked to see that they were cheap plastic boxes for regular office supplies. I thought...my God, these people must be crazy!! The female clerk reassured me that it was fine and that they had a "camera" to keep them safe. I said NO THANKS!!

I like these old-fashioned news stories that don't try to tell me how to think.

The crazy part is the bank knew before she found out her items were stolen. They have cameras that record bank activity 24/7/365 in HD. Don't tell me they don't know who stole this ladies' stuff!🤨

The smartest sentence in this entire video:
"You're better off burying your valuables in the back yard"

I remember in the 1970’s a lot of boxes were found in a government warehouse that had been there since the depression when the federal government closed down the banks .
So the people who owned the contents basically never got it back.

My girlfriend's cousin went to her father's box one day to catalog all the paperwork there which included $150K in stocks and bonds because her father was deathly ill. She went back 2 weeks later and it was all gone. When she told the bank officer, she was told to get out. She went to report it but then magically a check showed up in the mail for the $150K minus what might have been the accrued interest. I'll bury my stuff in the yard before I use a Safety Deposit Box.

$67, 000 in cash?! NOT invested? Just sitting in a box? Literally LOSING money even if she wasn't robbed.

If she can somehow prove the bank was negligent, the “not responsible” clause is null and void.

This has happened numerous times. It is rare but it happens. The greater risk is the government seizing your stuff. It's called civil asset forfeiture and it's pretty messed up. The banks are required to report anything that could look remotely suspicious and law enforcement can seize the stuff without even charging you with a crime.

What is the bank’s explanation? I have heard horror stories of a bank closing branches and never notifying a box holder.

You know it was a bank employee who stole it. Probably emptied several of them, the others just haven't noticed yet.

This story has been updated. Apparently someone at the bank moved her box to a different location by 'mistake' after another box holder, below this lady's, couldn't get her key to work. She only got $20 k back, which means it was an inside job and somebody got scared and made up the box mistake...who knows, anyway don't keep that much cash in one place...all eggs in one basket sort of thing
