Its not lowering standards, its lowering the entry bar. I enjoyed electronics as a teen in the 1970's but chose a different career path. I rediscovered electronics and Arduino 8 years ago and have been learning and increasing my skills ever since. Some people may only want to learn enough to do their project and that's ok. Others will make it the first of many steps toward an interesting hobby or career. Thanks Adafruit for lowering the entry bar!

The late-70's show Connections by James Burke highlighted how one seemingly meaningless invention was a missing or necessary link to a later, larger invention. The great possibility of open source today is the possibility our seemingly useless contribution can be used in something bigger than we imagined.

I so agree with this sentiment. I just love it that coding and electronics is more accessible. The opposite would be like taking away paint from kids because they didn't go to art school.

Excellent observation about lowering "STANDARDS". When the "cheese" is moved, these STANDARDS are changed and they now feel insecure. Nothing unique. How probably xx percent of the people fear change.
