Is a solid with a mask still a vector like a shape layer?

I created a shape layer, and I want to make a video transition. (A video changing to another). So.... am I watching the right video? Because I want to make a video dissapear and another appear like the Trim Path. So should I animate a mask and don't use shape layers please help.
