How To Play the Fmaj7 Chord On Guitar (F Major 7)

But why is normal F chord also called Fmajor? So theres major and minor and also another different major? F, FM and Fmaj7?
Why are both F and Fmaj7 called majors?

why not just say play a F w/out the E string

This is not the correct way to play fmaj7 I think at least it's not the way I was taught
