Having been born in 2001 to a lower income household, all we had was two big bins FULL of vhs, my sister and I memorized almost every advert to the beginning of each tape, and burnt our player out to the point it showed absolutely no color but pink lol!

Don't forget how the Playstation 2 played a big role in the DVD revolution because of the fact it was basically an affordable DVD player at the time

To this day I still collect physical media cause u never know when the streaming platform takes the movie down or maybe forgot to pay the internet bill like I have in the past

I was born in 2000 so my childhood was basically when DVD was progressively replacing VHS. As such I have memories of both.

I remember i had a tv with a vcr built-in. I thought that was so cool back then. Some tvs even had both vhs/dvd players built-in.

DVD really taking off in 2001 had less to do with 9/11 and more to do with the simple fact that in 2001, A: quality DVD players had dropped to $200 or lower and B: the amount of movies on DVD had grown exponentially.

I remember stopping the recording so I didn’t have to record to advertisement. Then I forget to hit the record button again when the film came back on lol

I thought this would have a couple million views. Or that your channel was larger, because the production quality and detail of this is immaculate. Subscriber earned! 😁

Back in the 80s, I was going to school and I really wanted to record TV shows in the Early afternoons because my school bus didn't get home till around 4;30, missing two of my favorite shows that I loved. Then in the evening there were movies that I could not watch because I was studying for a test the next day, or there were two movies that I loved and both were on at the same time, but nothing good was on for the next 3 days later on. So I got a VCR to 'time shift' TV shows.

Stopping the tape on the commercial break to replay the last few seconds and cue up a nice spot for pressing record again when the show came back on... miss those days 🙂

The truth of the matter is that DVD originally stood for, “digital versatile disc”, not “digital video disc.”
It changed over to the latter around the time Blockbuster arrived who rented and sold cold pressed discs. Before that, the idea was that DVD could possibly be marketed like VHS, a recordable format, which would make dvd, “versatile”. Of course people did record movies on disc but not much in the early days. Recording on disc did catch on down the road but it was never pushed to the same degree that VHS was.

Completely by chance I got a Laserdisc player, which I love. I collect movies and got quite a few formats that I can watch. Each has their own specific vibe for a specific mood that I’m feeling and I’ll hook it up for the day to watch what I got on it. Laserdisc has been my favorite recently. Nostalgic, but still obviously not the most ideal format, I’m lucky mine autoflips the disc. But it’s definitely more for the experience of the LD than the preferred format.

Correction around 8:45 DVD actually stands for digital versatile disc. That's why you can find DVD video and DVD audio titles.

Excellent video I enjoyed watching it!

In my opinion, physical media is still king. Especially seeing what's been going on with HBO MAX recently. They can take an the movies and TV shows off of streaming services, but they can't remove them from your shelves.

Bought my first VCR in 1984. Back then VHS and Beta were about 50/50. I went with Beta because of superior sound and video quality. After I bought it, VHS started taking over.

I don't have much nostalgia for VHS, sort of glad it's gone. I generally find DVDs not great picture wise, I'm so used to HD now but I'll buy dvd if it's the only choice. Lots of TV shows only get a dvd release, blu ray are more expensive to make, I guess they don't bother if they don't think many people will buy it. Same applies to TV shows you can stream in 4k but only get a 1080p blu ray release for.

I missed it was great times when VHS tapes popular four children to watch movies on video cassette it was very very sad. After VHS home video format without a business and the continued with with DVDs since it has 25 years since the 90s I am very happy with the new technology what is today I'm very thankful to watch movies forever. The way had the first came in movie theaters with Crystal Clear sound and better TV picture. Brings you the best movie theater. At home for all TVs in HD format televisions I'm happy with the technology with what they may for PlayStation 4 requires a great special. Formats sound with high-quality headphones you can blow you out of your mind like you're like in the movie theaters.
To be very honest I think we had a great long run history with movies of
These days I remember all those moments by mvhs Home Videos that was the best memory I ever had since my childhood.
So I still buy DVDs and now I am a DVD owner.
This is what kept me going for years with great entertainment great happiness thank you to all the filmmakers with our movie history to put together this on on YouTube forever to share with our kids of our history. To become storytellers. Play chasing their own dream to become filmmakers as what we see today.
I am age 37 years old and so I continue watching movies. Thank you for entertaining me and my whole family.
