I don't know if it's really viable to have a custom character as a Persona protagonist considering the games from 3 onwards often have anime cutscenes.

i think if they implemented character customization they should do it like pokemon, where the protagonists look a certain way by default that is shown in marketing and official artwork but you can go to clothing shops and make your character look however you want

I would like to see some nod to Personas 1 and 2. It would be nice to get some acknowledgment that the events from those games happened. I mean it doesn’t have to be super big. Maybe have a character mention a couple who are originally from Sumaru City or a popular band. I mean there’s a ton of content revolving around the idea of the Persona 5 protagonist (Akira/Ren) being the son of Tatsuya and Jun. 

Also I would love to see more non-Japanese Persona user. So far we have had Lisa, who is implied to be German-American and Ann, who is stated in the material to be 1/4 American (a lot of people think she’s is of Finnish-American descent based on her last name actually being a surname in the Finnish language as well Japanese). It would awesome to see the protagonist interact with fellow Persona users from other parts of the world and we could weave in a connection to Philemon by saying that there are other Persona users chosen by Philemon and Nyarloteph (I’m probably butchering the name) out there.

And finally I would love to see Philemon make an appearance again. Maybe have him set up the return of his arch enemy by a cryptic mention of a great darkness. This could also lead into finding a way to rescue Minato/Makoto from his current state as one of the Velvet Room attendants is searching for a way to free him and perhaps lead into a massive team up of all living past Persona users fighting together to help stop Nyarloteph from directly interfering because of how strong he has become. But those are just my wishes for what an ideal Persona game should be.

For #1 I feel torn. I wish they would either let us make our own character OR make the protag non silent and more fleshed out themselves, and I'd be equally happy with either.

Agree with #2, and it's very likely that it will since persona 5 was originally going to take place outside of Japan.

And with #5 I agree too, maybe something where an apocalypse is going to happen and they have to visit the future to find clues to prevent it.

having a custom character is good in theory
but in practice they’d have to remove the anime cutscenes and would be harder to market as you said though a femc and male mc is good like p3

I would like to see social stat benefits like maby knowledge gives bonus exp, charm gives extra money, kindness gives bonus to getting personas, etc. I also think a weapon upgrade system instead of many different weapons might be cool.

I would like for persona 6 to a reverse social link system, it will be like a social link but instead of becoming friends with someone you can have the choice to become enemys with them allowing different rank abilities and also a pretentsl different ending if you choose to make enemy's instead of friends, as you level up a reverse social link it should provide buffs that are similar but less powerful then the intended buff called imitations which for example if the original ability was that the mc can now get a shaddow to give him twice the loot from a battle it will now only be 1.5x the loot making it a more challenging experience furthermore kinda like how undertale has a genocide ending if the mc decides to make everyone an enemy a harder ending will be unlocked where you will have no party of persona users to help you and this could lead to a cool final fight against the other persona users who would have been in your team before the final boss like how sans blocks the hallway in undertale l's genocide ending.

You're right about creating/customizing a character ruffling some feathers, haha. Those other games you mentioned are fine, but customization strongly detracts from the ability to tell a story the way that Persona does. That story is why many people play and doing anything to take away from that is not worth the risk. It would be nice to see a female protagonist, but you can do that without character creation/customization. If they can build a character creation/customization system and keep their story up to par, maybe, but I don't see that happening. Even with a silent protagonist, still all the (tons and tons of) words have to be able to match the character on screen. In a game like Dragon Quest the story isn't as detailed and specific as in a Persona game so it is fine to do that. Do you have any ideas about how to make the story work with creation/customization?

I agree with having the choice of having a female protagonist and customization. It would be cool if we could change our hair style/color so that people can have different looking mcs. Also it would be cool if depending on the social links between characters, dialogue is slightly changed to show your relationship with the cast.
