I live in that neighborhood off of High Street and have for the past 18 years. When the city evicted all those people from the Home Depot, I was attacked by a man with a machete, a homeless arsonist setup shop right outside of my window and almost burnt our building down, and several people were in our parking lot chopping cars. The city of Oakland is lost and is the worst it has ever been. It is the only city I have called home for all 50 of my years and I am moving away in the next couple of weeks. I hope to never come back to Oakland. It's a horrible place that's not fit for a pig. Stay far away and don't venture there. Your car will get broken in, you will get assaulted, or someone will invade your home. Don't ever go to Oakland.

Enforce the law and keep on it until they either never come back to the Bay Area. This feels more and more like Bombay slums or favelas that become permanent.

There are many deserted empty towns in the US. Why can't they be shipped to one of these? Ship food to them, turn on the water. They can rebuild the houses if they want and start their own empire. Slab City did it.

I'm familiar with the neighborhood. I had to cancel my 24-hour fitness membership because of this reason.

So a lot of the more suburban cities, like ones where the judge that ruled that SF was not allowed to clean up encampments, simply have rules like "no tent encampments" or "no overnight parking of RVs and trailers on city streets" why don't these big cities just follow suit and finally just leave it at a situation where if you can't afford to live here, you can't stay here, find a city where the cost of living is closer to where you can afford. Obviously it's not simply a matter of "not enough homes" two vacancies just opened up on that block they stayed at but will any of those RV dwellers even attempt to contact the landlords to see if they can move in? Nope.

Maybe someone needs to ask Kalb, Bas, Fife, Kaplan, Thao, and Pamela Price : WHY WILL OAKLAND NOT ENFORCE THE LAWS? Remove all of these incompetent and dangerous politicians! oakland needs leadership badly and these folks are not just bad, they are making things WORSE!

That's so effed up. People shouldn't have to move out of their homes for homeless pests! That makes zero sense, but it's made zero sense for way too long a time!

I have seen this myself, not only in this area but in Union city. The RV campers parked in HD parking lots. There are 2 groups that are using HD parking lots>DAY LABORS and RV campers. Both bring added issues to our city's.And shoppers.I won't shop there, while these people are in the lots, IT'S unsafe.I don;t have a solution, BUT i would hope the people we ELECTED to be in charge would.WASN'T the reason people ran for OFFICE originally as a way to be able to improve living condition for the citizens of their districts?Am i wrong here?

Oakland coliseum parking lot could be dedicated to people living in vehicles. Problem solved.

Local government... " We moved them out, and they didn't cease to exist? We did not see that coming!"

People that get elected are supposed to prevent or fix this kind of problem. If they are negligent and just collecting paychecks then this is what happens.

Does the news crew have an armed guard when they are out and about? As close as they get to these encampments they are bound to piss off some crazy people and get attacked.

They forgot to mention the one that is located in front of the PG&E substation in Jack London. It caught fire twice and the garbage pile kept getting bigger. It got so big that a freight truck trying to backup in the loading dock hit and damaged the World Market building. Surprisingly, the city of Oakland was willing to let these bums shut down half city with dangerous fires. It’s worse now that one of the “tenants” is now camped closer to a transformer. They are scheduled to be removed Nov 6 but we’ll see how long those will last.

"Displaced Homeless RV dwellers?" The wife and I are fulltime RVers with jobs. Never knew we were displaced, homeless dwellers. Sounds like there's ONE operative word missing here.

This is typical wack a mole Bay Area response. Someone complains. They move to another location. Where is Mayor Thao?
