Why did I run Walksnail at 720p instead of 1080p? This is one of those situations where I proved something to myself in a previous video and forgot to remind you. I've tested Walksnail 720p vs. 1080p and come to the conclusion that 1080p looks worse, unless you are moving very slowly and at close range. 50 Mbps is a generous bitrate for a 1080p signal, but once you fly away and the bitrate drops, the image gets blocky and blurry. In my experience, 720p is more usable. You have fewer pixels, but especially if the image is fast-moving, and especially when you get to mid-disatnce and the bitrate starts dropping, the image stays usable longer. I personally run all my WS systems at 720p, so that's how I tested.

While the results don’t lie and the proof is in the puddin’ (Thank you for taking the time to do this), I find that walksnail has better Low-Vis capabilities. This suits my lifestyle as I tend to fly at the butt crack of dawn or at night.

It's not just about image quality. Reasons I would choose Walksnail over DJI particularly for 1s are price, availability, durability to name a few.

I'm not in a hurry to buy new things, despite having WS and DJI systems, I like flying analogue the most. I still only have v2 goggles, and the premiere of O4 caused a good time to buy O3 cameras cheaply :)

I replaced all my walksnail with dji o4 and couldnt be happier. it was so great compared to analog but DJI really is some alien technology.

Thanks Joshua, very interesting and consistent with my experience (I fly them all). The DJI O4 (lite) is the big surprise for me. Great little board, works well down to 75mm with the right FC, great range and penetration, nice image. A bit fragile, but so are all 1s boards. I fly Integra and so happy my Air Units, Vista, O3 and the O4 ALL work and look great.

Could you run the same test with the 04 pro and lite using goggle2 and see how that compare to the goggle 3 test

Man I really hope DJI doesn’t get banned in the US. I’ve been having a real good time with my O4 units and goggles 3. Never would I have imagined when I first started flying fpv that I’d be getting low latency 1080p video with incredible range and penetration. It really does open up so many more opportunities in where you can fly and what you can do.

We do know the answer. But, honestly, I personally, can not get enough of these range/penetration tests.

A few days ago, I flew my new 1S hdzero aio5 out to about 1km on 200mw with a whip antenna and with a cp antenna, the cp was way better. Next day, on 25mw in a much different situation, I ran the whip antenna twice, 1 time about 1.1 km, 2nd time about 1.5. the cp antenna got out to only about 1.3km that day. But this second day, I flew closer to wifi interference. If only it was above zero outside, I could do these tests much more often.

I think there are a few points I think you overlooked. I don’t want to get Aeroscoped by the police (again) while flying in a perfectly legal place. I like that I can output to a monitor with just one cable (Usb-c to hdmi) and share my video with friends. I like to be able to swap out my goggles battery and strap. I like to be able to change the antenna on my goggles to fit the situation. FOV on the lite is terrible~117 vs 150. Leaving out low light comparison is criminal (you already touched on it in another one of your videos). My image doesn’t look that bad (720p 25Mbps ch7). I like that I don’t have to register to use my product. Thank you for your hard work.

Great video. Wish you would have included the o3 in your testing as well. Would love to see some side by side/split screen image quality tests and FOV testing of the o3 vs o4, o3 vs o4 pro, o3 vs o4 vs walksnail, etc. I love my o4s but the o3 still gives very good image quailty minus the low light stuff, etc. Would be a great video though! Keep up the good vidz JB

I think walksnail will be perfect for freestyle guys who aren't looking to fly far or shoot video for work.. Dji, I feel, is more for the "professional" type person.. I recently got WalkSnail and love it so far.. I'm a freestyle/cruiser who still loves analog too..

I find my Avatar HD pro at 1080 in sunny conditions absolutely beautiful. Do you think the lighting was contributing to the smearing etc you were seeing?

I totally understand the desire to not get prosecuted flying out of sight. Maybe just driving away with the transmitter on top of a car is a fairly realistic test?
