I feel like the story sort of shifts and Sylas becomes a lot more sympathetic as soon as you understand that him and people like him are the victims of a literal actual genocide

Only 3 minutes of video and you explained the details better than most other reviewers, thanks :)

Everyone, just go play Hyper Light Drifter, Unsighted, or CrossCode instead.

Seems like a recurring issue with Riot Forge titles. They're mostly there for existing fans and place themselves inside a much larger narrative so I get them being hard to follow or get excited for on the narrative side.

When ever I see Sylas's design I just see a Chippendale stripper. Just sub out his manacles for cuffs and give him a collar. 😂

Only reason this game is on my radar is because I am a huge fan of Digital Sun's previous game, Moonlighter. People are putting way too much stock on this being a League of Legends (who cares?) story and the RPG moniker.

So glad I’m not the only one that felt this way. Sylas was a dick at times. I gave up following the story. And while there were moments where the combat clicked that it felt great. There were other moments where it became more frustrating trying to dart around an arena taking a couple swipes at an enemy and barely making their health bar go down. Hoping to refill your mana before you die. While some enemies can take you out in 3 hits. Those deer/elk skull faced lightning things and the frogs that created lava pools were the bane of my existence a few times. It’s a cool game but felt like it wasn’t fully baked

I'll give it a go when the price comes down. There are many good games for half that price

It's a shame to hear that the sum of the parts was less than the whole. On the surface, this looks like a great game to scratch that "Hyper Light Drifter" itch (and maybe even go beyond it).

"Sylas isn't sympathetic or likeable"
Its almost as if he's a villain, who's only in a good light because his opponents are literal Nazi's. You want the good guy in this story, that's lux

Honestly? I feel like part of the reason why Sylas's charecter wouldnt click (not having played this game mind you) is Sylas as a character (in the universe of league of legends) isn't "good". I dont mean badly written, I mean he wasn't meant to be a true protagonist-like charecter your meant to like when he released in League of Legends. He's very much like Edwin Vancleef from WoW, someone who you can understand the underlying issue that created him, but NOT someone you can cheer for or even like/sympathise with. He's outright cruel at times and from his voicelines in league, want demacia to destryoed/fall into basically bandit kingdoms where mages rule as tyrants with an grip over those with no magic. He's fundamentally meant to be lux's polar opposite, where lux is bright, altruistic and genuinely want to changes demcia's mind and allow mages to walk as equals, Sylas is a man wearing the face of a "revolutionary" who really is just a bitter, borderline if not outright anarchist who want to see Demacia (and maybe even the world) burn (case and point, him calling Noxians "pigs" despite Noxus being a meritocracy where might, magic or cunning are all equal ways to climb up the social ladder, so theoretically he should love them). He meant to be the "bad version" of mages rising up, where he only causes the fear of mages to deepen and get worse, a version where there is only two outcomes, demacia dies or mages are slaughtered to the last.

I feel the solution would have been atleast an English voiceover. To get the story across better and to live up it's price

You can't sympathise with someone who have been locked for half their life because they were born different and tried doing good. Someone who didn't even have basic knowledge like what stalactites are. Of course the first thing they do when getting out is seeking revenge. The imprisonment was not to reinsert him in society, you know, being a mage and all.

Some characters do feel blank and the story kind of rushed, but overall it's a little story of how Sylas did after getting free and it was enjoyable as hell to get more detailed info on how all characters went their way.

Gameplay mechanics were pretty simple but engaging. Sure i didn't use some things much, like the power up, but i did play on normal difficulty and it was kind of challenging some times.

Damn, not my type of game but Riot has normally hired really competent storytellers as of late. Sylas is a super amazing and sympathetic character normally.

What a shame to hear a review like this, I absolutely loved the story and the gameplay

As someone who played LOL, Sylas' character is not somebody you need to have sympathy with or likable.... He's not driven to do it for others rather he did what he have done for the sake of his revenge.. yes he has saved mages along the way, but that is not his main goal..
And also the characters in league of legends still have their stories on going, so there's alot of room and chances for Sylas' redemption arc.... But Mageseekers isn't about that, it's about the start of rebellion and civil war..

For those who want to play Mageseeker and doesn't know the lore, I would suggest to read the lore first before playing so that you have some context on the premise of the events of the game... You may not read it, but reading gives a grasp on the setting of the story...

Views were spot on. Sylas isn't a hero. He's a terrorist. Lux is the hero.
