Love the “ Leica balance test” that’s my standard lens choice protocol now

You are so spot on. With RF the magic is the small size. Small RF lenses with wrench are a match made in heaven. Bigger lenses kinda ruin it. I love my Voigtlander 35mm f/2.5 Skopar, as well as the 28mm f/2 Ultron. While my 50mm f/1.2 Nokton makes amazing images, it’s bigger and heavy. It doesn’t pass balance test as you put it. The experience puts me off.

I'm loving all these videos. This format and length are perfect.

The 28 Ultron was my first lens when I got into the Leica system and its my go to lens. I've had 35mm and 50mm and I always go back to the 28mm Ultron.

Elmarit 28mm f/2.8 ASPH is my favourite lens ever

It looks so weird without the hood screwed on... Hehe. I have one but 28 isn't really my favorite focal length, so I don't use it that often, but when I do I've always been impressed with the results.

edit: just wanted to add. One reason I don't like using it often is the frame lines are almost impossible to see because I wear glasses, but I bought an external finder that helps a lot with that.

You would probably like the canon 28mm ltm lens for your personal work, it definitely passes the balance test 👍🏼

Happy to have found your channel. It's been a hidden gem for me.
Your photography is top notch, but I also appreciate your take on gear and various photography workflows. I share a lot of your philosophies, so having additional tips is always useful.

Dude thanks for pointing out this lens! Seems like a very reasonably-priced pickup for a first-time Leica shooter!

It's a great lens which I own since 4 years. The lens is great both for film and digital for the price especially when comparing it to expensive Leica 28 mm lenses. The 28 mm frame fills the whole viewfinder in the M 240 - it is better on my M6. Typical for Cosina, the filter diameter is less common with 46 mm. The screw-in lens hood doesn't fit over all kind of third party 46 mm filters unfortunately. I wish they made a clip-on lens hood leaving more distance to the filter thread instead. Nevertheless, I am glad they didn't do the otherwise often used CV thing to have a fixed hood which would be worse.

Great work as always Benj. I feel like I'm on such a similar wave length with your approach to photography, it's kinda scary haha. Anyways, great review. I bought the older version, 28mm 1.9 ultron, for my CLE a little while ago and I love it. I agree, 28mm has been what I've shifted to in the past couple years with my personal family photos (this lens and my Ricoh Gr1s) because of shooting so much indoors with kids. I find myself wanting the same for my wedding work so I'll be looking for a good option for my fuji system now.

I look forward to the next one!

My most recent lens and although I might not consider it as small as you say it is (relative to my 35mm colo-skopar) it's a great size vs fast prime. I like the 28mm field of view although, it's not too wide as I find 24mm has to much distortion.

Curious what your thoughts are on the Zeiss ZM Biogon 28mm f2.8 compared to this. Also, do you notice any barrel distortion in the lens?

I loved this lens on my M6 so much it was actually the reason I got into the Leica Q (and then eventually Q2) system. 28mm is so underrated

This lens feels big on my M6 compared to my 28 f5.6, 35 Ultron, 35 Biogon and 35 Summicron. I'm trying to force myself to use it more often to photograph my 4yr old.

A 28mm focal length video would me awesome!

I got this lens yesterday and I know you say it is sharp and it appears to be however, I see what looks like fine grain at ISO 800 on the SL2S. Am I crazy or is that a characteristic of this lens shooting on a none M body, I’d love your thoughts!

Good video. I have 35f2 ultron on my m6. I suggest you buy a Leica screwmount 111F, buy a voightlander 21mm screwmount with finder and basically that set up is a snapshot camera. Works really well the 21 mm lens on a 111F. Buy the 111F at Tamarkins and if necessary have youxin ye do cla. Again very good video

I was thinking about this Ultron for...a lot! Then, I moved to Biogon and bought it: there's an enormous difference.
The Zeiss is better than this, but...it's 2.8.
