Seoul, Toyko and Beijing have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting talks between North Korea and the U.S. on the nuclear issue.
In a joint press briefing earlier today,... President Moon said the three countries will continue to work together to advance the peace process.
Park Hee-jun has the latest. South Korea, Japan and China will continue their joint efforts to get North Korea and the U.S. to resume their talks,... as part of achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula.
This is according to President Moon Jae-in at a joint press conference Tuesday... with the Prime Minister of Japan and China's number two after their trilateral summit in Chengdu.
"Our three countries have agreed to continue close cooperation for denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula. We acknowledged that peace on the Peninsula accords with our common interests, and we agreed to work together so that progress can be made on denuclearization and peace through North Korea-U.S. dialogue."
These three parties, crucial to the peace process, met as North Korea escalates tensions with its missile tests and threats against the U.S.
And the year-end deadline set by the North for Washington to make concessions... is nearly up.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed full support for South Korea's peace efforts.
While condemning the North's missile provocations, which he says violate UN Security Council resolutions and threaten regional security,... Abe said Japan will help maintain the momentum of dialogue between Pyeongyang and Washington.
"Full backing for the North Korea-U.S. process is important to achieve North Korea's complete denuclearization. For that, we reaffirmed that we must strictly enforce the UNSC resolutions and keep up the momentum of dialogue."
The leaders also agreed in their summit talks to uphold free trade.
"All of us support free trade and economic investment. Protecting free trade helps protect multilateralism and world peace."
Premier Li revealed that Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing are hoping for an early signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement,... and they plan to speed up negotiations for a trilateral free trade deal.
He added that China will continue to open its economy,... stressing the need for greater cooperation in areas like services, finance and science technology.
And with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics drawing near, South Korea and China promised their full support.
Through active exchanges in sports,... the three countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepen their friendly ties.
They will also strengthen partnerships regarding environment and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The talks in Beijing opened a promising future for three-way cooperation, as described by President Moon.
