Ioannis Fountoulis, born on May 25, 1988, in Chios, Greece, is regarded as one of the greatest water polo players in history and one of Greece's finest athletes in the sport. As the current captain of the Greek water polo team, Ioannis exemplifies leadership both in and out of the pool.

With over 15 years on the Greek national team, Fountoulis has been instrumental in securing numerous major medals. Among these, the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics stands out as a significant achievement. The Greek team came agonizingly close to winning gold at the World Championship in Fukuoka, narrowly losing to Hungary in the final after a tense penalty shootout.
In 2018, he won the LEN Champions League with the Olympiacos, where he still plays today.
