Saban got out at the right time. The entire landscape of college football has changed and morphed into something I'm no longer really a fan of. College football was the last pure and innocent major sport and something I've looked forward to every fall for over 30 years. The NIL killed the pageantry and rivalry. It stripped schools of their spirit and evolved into yearly free agency to the highest bidder. I miss the game I grew up loving, but it's never coming back. The era for coaches like Saban is over, and that's a horrible shame

Saban has proven he can motivate college athletes. However, his short foray into NFL coaching was unsuccessful because couldn't motivate rich, spoiled and conceited NFL players. Now that the transfer portal is on and the players are getting paid, they're becoming junior versions of NFL players and Saban can see the nightmare unfolding again. He's doing the right thing by retiring. Personally, I'm thinking about concentrating on high school football at this point. At least those kids go to class, get kicked off the team for bad grades, actually care about their alma maters, know their own fight songs and are playing for wins, not cash.

Honestly, he deserved to go off on the players. The amount of crap he had to deal with over all of the years. Yeah, throw them under the bus, they aren’t his players anymore.

This is my take. I think Saban was a very talented coach. He is just old school and I think the transfer portal drove him nuts. He needs to relax, grab a beer and put his feet in the sand

Not agreeing with Saban being honest and truthful regarding contributing reasons why he retired is yet another contributing factor why he hit the exit button! The woke, entitled young generation don't want to here TRUTH! I hope his players "get the message", and find themselves somewhere with their face buried in their hands thinking, "I did this!"

Let's not miss the trees for the forest. You're talking like he is some old, senile fool that is destined to be in the shadows in a rocking chair. Oh contraire - he has his fingers on the reality pulse for what's happening to players, and the younger generation in general. I do believe the players should be compensated to a degree - as they are adults. But let's not kid ourselves, and 18 year old is still a kid. They need guidance and to be focused on the inputs rather than the outputs. "I got the NIL and the chain, bro." is all you need to say. That's the culture, and that's the problem.

He walked with the black kids in 2020 and made many young black men rich. But he cant bench a black QB for throwing interceptions and losing a game in week 2 to give other unproven QBs a chance without everybody calling him racist. These kids are spoiled and how can you build and retain culture when every player or coach only wants to come to Bama for that "free ticket" to success and spotlight because of what youve built? And once they get noticed theyre ready to climb that ladder that wouldnt have even been available without Bama. I mean first opportunity and woosh, theyre gone. The guys that would have been around as an example of what to do for the younger players arent around anymore, thats players and coaches. You have to build back that culture every year from the ground. Nick is not gonna be the ring leader in a clown show, he works too hard and cares too much. Everybody wants the flowers while Saban does the digging and planting by himself. Dont blame him at all and hope he enjoys his retirement 👍

Saban has always been one to call out players and challenge his team mentally and physically. And it’s always worked.

Saban is funny. I get it he's a controlling person, hence why he left the NFL, and I'm not saying it is a bad thing, but to say the players' behavior is part of the reason you left is funny like it's not he hasn't taken in players with problems or character concerns or not like players under his watch didn't openly break the law and he never left then he doesn't have as much control and power so he left next he'll be like its all about money now like it hasn't always been that way
