What even is Astrophysics research?? | Astrophysics Research Basics 1

Hiya! I'm Kylie, and I'm a current Fulbright Fellow who graduated from MIT and an aspiring Astrophysicist. Thanks for checking out my channel! This is episode 1 of my Astrophysics Research Basics series, where I teach you the stuff about Astrophysics research that no one really tells you.

Over the years I've realized that there is a lot of stuff in academia that no one really explains. You either have to be wise enough to seek it out, or just happen upon it accidentally. That can really be unfair to a lot of people, especially those who are from less privileged backgrounds. I hope this series will help share information to give everyone a more even playing field. If you have any specific aspects of research that you'd like me to cover in future episodes, put it down in the comments!

This episode is a general explanation about the different paths you can take within Astronomy. Believe it or not, Astronomy is a wide field encompassing many different kinds of research! It can be difficult to decide what you want to pursue, so I hope this video will give you a general idea of what the different paths are, so you can decide for yourself.

I'm a 2nd-year (Integrated MSc in physics) student from India interested in theoretical astrophysics. I'm looking forward to going to US or Germany for my master's. is it really worth it to join these top institutions in the world? what kind of resources does a theoretical astrophysicist need? do I really need to come to MIT or any other top institution for that matter?
