I dont know man. Having this issue is the worst pain in the world. I lived with it for 7yrs and finally had the courage to go speak with a doctor. Just had surgery on 11-26-2024 and am writing this message on day 2 of recovering. So far so good. I feel alive once again. I hope that this does not recurred and pray for all my bothers and sister's who is living with this be cured. The pain is dreadful!

I've had mine 15 years. Once you get it to drain, keep it clean, use baby wipes. No TISSUE! It's very embarrassing also. You can get in the sea or pool but I DO NOT RECOMMEND PUBLIC HOT TUBS! EVER!! I had come down with a fistula, and had a fistulotomy w a seton drain placed back in 2012. Wonderful surgeon very helpful. Yes the post surgery was painful as the incision had to be left open as it healed from the inside out. Im glad I had the surgery performed and Ive had no issues

Dr. Chung, I am so glad I came across your video. Very informative and influential for me. Just saw a proctologist, diagnosed me with a fistula. First thing he said was SURGERY, of course! I shouldn't be surprised because he was an older fellow. He said I would be off 2-4 weeks because of the pain and will need to take pain meds. PAIN?! I thought about it, and yes, there's a lot of nerves down there, of course there'll be pain.

After listening to this video, there's NO WAY I would want to do surgery. He'd be cutting nerves, muscles, etc, and I'd be out of work and gym for a month. I believe my case to be very minor, more like annoying. I will just keep me little fistula clear and clean to prevent infections. Maybe I'll consider the seton or even betterm the FILAC laser treatment. Thank you so much for this info!

I have a story, After having a fistula, I consulted two doctors, and they advised me to undergo surgery. I decided to go ahead with the surgery. However, before the scheduled surgery date, I experienced severe abdominal pain, and it was discovered that I had a pancreatic infection. I ended up being hospitalized for 9 consecutive days, during which I received antibiotic injections 2 to 3 times a day. After these 9 days, when I returned home, I noticed that my fistula had completely dried up. I thought I would consult a doctor or consider surgery if the fistula started bleeding or discharging pus again. But now, almost a year has passed, and it seems the fistula has healed on its own.

Finally somehow how doesn't make the patients nervous. I'm 31 and I have had a fistula for several years now and I'm quite used to it and it does not bother me much. I didn't even know the term Fistula until recently and and after searching on internet I became very nervous about it. 99% people are talking about surgeries or they say there will be complication in the future. I have just one question, is there any chance of developing cancer from this fistula if I keep it as it is? Note that I will try to maintain more healthy lifestyle than I used to since I came to know about many things last 2 days.

I have severe Crohns disease and I’ve had 3 fistulatomys, and they keep coming back every year. the surgeon that performed the surgery said I’m skrewed. I’m deep in debt and slowly dying. Very little hope for anyone like me 😢
