This is the intro video to my primary surfacing series. The aim of the seires is to help people better understand how to make primary surfaces, and thereby make better models. I'm using Rhino3D but many of the concepts in the series are not platform specific. In short, this series is for anyone looking to make BETTER surface models. I hope you enjoy!

Sky - pretty honorable for you to take the time out to put this series together. It’s greatly appreciated and to a large degree, demystifies the “what’s and why’s” involving Nurbs surfacing. I’m sure many of the viewers valuing the info provided are well beyond building models for visual production work. Thanks Dude!

Bless your heart ! I've been struggling with finding a good nurbs modelling techniques tutorial and I've been watching yours over and over again ! Still struggling but at least I understand it better than before ! Don't have enough words to thank you for this series, I was so down at points trying to create models that started crying in front of my laptop not knowing why stuff wouldn't work with the approach of like, leaving the rhino features do the work that you described later, patch, curve network etc. as being not as good as the classic approach, .. Thank you so much !

Ive been surfacing for 20 years. These surfacing programs all give you the opportunity to make great looking models that are functionally garbage. I have to admit that for most of my career I have settled on "good enough." As I got into transportation projects Ive had to step it up. Sky does a great job organizing and communicating disciplines for top level modeling. These videos would have made my life a lot easier. I am grateful he put this out now because even 20 years into it these videos are very helpful to me!

Thank you for this series. I’ve watched the first 5 videos so far and they have been a tremendous help. Explaining minimizing and matching degrees in curves was a “aha” moment that made so much sense. Will be watching the rest of the series.

Can't thank you enough this- should be taught right off the way when starting in Rhino - Truly gold.

Great tutorials, this surfacing series as well as other vids of Schy' W., I've been thru and am now beginning my first review. I've been plunking around, off and on Rhino for years, since V3. This is the best surfacing method I've seen. Very practical. Thanks Schy', so much.

Love this series - I'm just starting to go through it for the second time.
First time just listening and watching, second time hopefully reenacting some of it, if that is the right word for it.

I have 25 years of experience with 3D CAD, mainly as an archtiect, many times over the years using AutoCAD and its Mechanical Desktop Version for non orthogonal geometries, e.g. working at the office of Calatrava here in Zürich, but also for many of my own designs, not only architectural ones, and a number of architectural competitions, and even once having tried to draw an autmotive design (using Rhino V5 "release candidate"), more than a decade ago, first following a handbook and just "reenacting" its extensively detailed sample and then trying my own design:

One major reason for me, putting this on hold and aside, (besides some at the time surprisngly important other factors), was my limited understanding of surface modeling (in Rhino) - even after working through many of the, much fewer, tutorials, available back then, and the 650 pages/ 2000+ screenshots handbook of the automotive example, I was lacking too much of the understanding your tutorials provide. I wonder what path I would have chosen, having seen this tutorial series back then. It is a real gateway opener to a (strangly) secret knowledge universe.

Thank you very much for this access !

Please excuse my non-native mode of expression.

Sky, great to see you're still at it. I've been into surface modeling for years with Alias and Rhino. I remember watching you modeling in TSplines. Loved Rhinos interface but moved to Alias for class A. I really like the way your breaking down surface modeling in this series. I'm going to have to dust off my Rhino workstation and give it a try again. Can't wait to try the infamous wing

Wow. I cannot thank you enough. The quality of these videos are sublime. I'm quickly working my way through your entire channel and all I have to say is I'm so impressed with your competency. Question: Your workflow and logic highly scrutinizes the underlying mathematics of Rhino commands - Do you ever use grasshopper to establish new mathematical relationships between shapes?

Probably the best-kept secret on Rhino Surfacing. Thank you, Kyle Houchens "see Rhino 7 Glue Gun Build" for pointing us to this tutorial.
I'm still debating though which is better... Your training methods, or the content??

Great material - thank you for sharing - you will save a lot of people a lot of stress with your tutorials. The AutoDesk Shape Modelling plugin - is that still available? Would you advise all rhino users get it?
