NOTE: Apparently a lot of you guys are dying due to the tnt of this method. Please make sure you are wearing sufficient armour with enchantments or try out the method in creative before attempting on your hardcore worlds :)

i'd recommend you tell people to not "pick a block" and instead encourage people to explode the block they *just* came out of, seeing as this bedrock breaking is only really helpful when you break one layer of it

Just tried this in my longtime hardcore world and died instantly at full health with diamond armor 🔥

For those saying it doesn't work. It does, just practice and mimic what they are doing in the video. I can confirm with 1.20.4 - Java that this still works as described in the video. Nothing special needed, and was done in Hardcore.

This worked even with a server with bad TPS, took 5 tries and I got it. DON'T do this on hardcore without a totem, even if you have maxed out gear.

This does work in 1.20 but took me over 6 tries to get it to work
(Edit) For a higher chance of this working do small circles around with your mouse when trying to place the piston on the obsidian

thanks! i tried using the lag-based bedrock breaking technique on my fabric server but it didn't work out. looks like i can get this working pretty consistently though! :)

you have to use the leaver *first*, then the trapdoor. i tryed it changed (because you can reach the leaver later, too) but this didnt work!
didnt thought it was SO important.

The device may not work in the x-direction (north-south), but only in the z-direction (east-west).

Why?

Firstly, the lever updates the blocks around itself and attached blocks (Manhattan distance no greater than one), and the TNT that is updated first will explode first (even if they explode in the same tick, and cannot be slowed down). Ideally, the TNT above (y+) explodes first, destroying the smooth stone. At this point, the uncharged piston generates a retraction plan tick, and then the second TNT destroys the piston, allowing the player put down a piston in the opposite direction. One tick later, the piston in the opposite direction executes the retraction plan, pulling (destroying) the bedrock below as the piston head.

However, please note that the lever's update order is:
The six directions around the lever itself (x- / x+ / y- / y+ / z- / z+).
The six directions around the block to which the lever is attached (x- / x+ / y- / y+ / z- / z+).

If you place the lower TNT in the x-direction, the lever will update the downward TNT first, causing the first TNT to simultaneously destroy the piston and smooth stone. The piston may not generate a retraction plan, so the destruction of the bedrock cannot be guaranteed. (In fact, the order in which the explosion destroys blocks is based on coordinates and java.util.HashMap, so you can assume that using the wrong direction will only have a 1/2 chance of success.)

If you are patient enough to read this, try this method.

This method guarantees the update order of TNT, so the above problem will not occur, and it does not require obsidian.

BRO my dumb head only brought 4 levers and it was the last one when I realized I didn't have any more, but I got it to work thanks man for the amazing video.

Dude I accidentally flipped the lever when I wasnt even under the trapdoor, thankfully I got it first try anyways lol great tutorial man!

I used to do this all the time...on on my almost 60th attempt now. Are we sure it still works?

Just worked in 1.21 without the top right TNT. Was aiming as far into the corner of the obsidian as possible.

It didn’t work for me for like 15+ times, I was finally able to get it to work after I switched my game mode from hard to normal.

Small tip, just rebind your place block action to like B or a something and hold it when the exploding is taking place, makes this method almost 100% effective, it is a bit more tedious to rebuild but you get used it quick and it's only a few blocks

I attempted to do this, died with all my loot at the top of the nether, and in my dire need of enderpearls to get back up there, it started to rain outside. All my items have despawned. This isn't the videos fault but i'm back at square one after a day of grinding.

definitely takes a few tries, but it does still work as of 1.19.4
bring extra obsidian so you can get back down if you run out of materials trying lmao

It works on 1.19.2. My tips would be to change the key bind only after you get under the trap door.

So flick lever, then use trap door, pause the game and change key bind and as you click Back to Game, hold the new key bind while pointing right at the corner of the obsidian block.

The piston will be facing up after the explosion which means you broke bedrock.

still works in 1.20.1, after 10 fails i got it, what did the trick for me was aiming as far as possible in the corner. also changed my game from hard to normal since i saw someone say that in the comments but not sure if it actually helped. corner thing tho for sure was the trick.
