Exclusive: Riky Rick's family remembers him six months after his death

The late rapper, singer, and producer Rikahdo Riky Rick Makhado took his life in February this year. The passing of the iconic hitmaker, sent shockwaves across the music industry and left his family, friends, and fans devastated. On the six-month anniversary of the tragic event, I visited the family at their Waterfall, Midrand home and sat down for an intimate conversation, checking in on how life has been and how they have been making sense of losing him.

I wrote a letter to Bianca Naidoo. Riky's death left us shocked and during the time I felt like the media focused on Riky. I wanted to make sure she was okay. I hope one day she finds the video. I wish healing on her and her children. The video is on my channel.

Ricky's life was and remains a gift. A couple of things I'd like to commend:
1) The family for sharing their honest reflections and perspectives. The pain is deep and is evident but they continue to honour him.
2) The love that remains with the family and his people despite the grief
3) SABC for checking in, in a gentle manner. On that, Iman, for being a listening and compassionate interviewer who was able to balance emotions, allowed the voices of the family to come through

I'm still in awe at how Ricky created a culture that outlives him. He served with heart.
