Moonlight's Mahershala Ali Wins Best Supporting Actor & Makes HISTORY At 2017 Oscars

Mahershala Ali may be one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood and all of that hard work paid off tonight. He was up against, Jeff Bridges, Lucas Hedges, Dev Patel, and Michael Shannon who all gave incredible performances in their roles. During the opening of his speech, he jokes about his grandmother and appears to be speechless.
Moonlight was no doubt one of the most moving films of the award season and Ali has definitely been the frontrunner to win in his category this season. When he does get his thoughts together, he did not disappoint. He thanked his teachers, and then told the audience one thing that his teachers consistently told him that he still holds on too with every role he takes.

The best part of his speech however is when he thanks his wife!

After the applause ended, he goes on to thank her saying, "So I just wanna thank her for being such a soldier through this process and help and really carrying me through it all.” Can we say couple goals?! He posted an adorable pic to his instagram of his wife and little girl a couple of days ago.
Also did I mention that he made history tonight?! Yup. Mahershala Ali is the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar. It’s safe to say that his wife and daughter are very proud.

He is a great actor. I saw this movie yesterday. His role was short but the character was very powerful and kind. Mahershala did absolute justice and made me feel every emotion. More power to you.

In the past, you won an Oscar and got better roles.  Today, well, he'll be playing a superhero soon.

Wished Dev Patel would have won for his performance in Lion. But a well-desearved award indeed, , well-done!

Honestly he wasn't even that good in this film....They probably just gave it to him because he's Muslim...SMH.

Happy for him but at the same time if he's muslim then why is he acting in a gay movie + why is he waring an earring ? I'm not hating or anything, but you can't do that if you're muslim.

Marshmallow Ali won because he's a Muslim and Hollywood hates America. He was on screen for two minutes. Put the Oscars back the way they used to be.
