Yes, this is common knowlegde to expert editors. For beginners, it's a whole new world!

This makes quite a difference when working with certain effects.
For example, if you want a bokeh blur to fade into your clip, using adjustment layers will ruin the thing.
I don't want to explain it, but you can clearly see the difference between default keyframing of lens blur and using it through this adj layer method by trying it out for yourself.
It's not the case for all effects though

In after effects I use adjustments layers all the time

This works in Davinchi but if done In Ae it makes 60% or so effects just randomly hit super hard for no reason, looks horrible in After effects. Really great tip tho for davinchi, got my like
