You might think that running old PC games on modern computer hardware would be easy, with super high frame rates across the board. In reality, in can be more problematic than you think. Thankfully everything is fixable, and there are some enhancements to be made.

Far cry actually has a subtle problem on windows vista and up. The water reflects things like trees, but it doesn't reflect the ground so you'll see floating trees in the reflections. The reason for this is apparently an issue with a very obscure part of the dx9 api that wasn't ported correctly from xp to vista.

Also the loading thing happened to me on first startup as well on my xp machine, I thought it was just the slow single core cpu, 1gb of ram or hard drive that caused it but it seems the game just does that.

But I want you to look into Severance Blades of Darkness, it is the grandfather of dark souls and practically no one knows about it. I loved it to the core.
