Skookums New Anchor Chain! #boatjewelery

New anchor chain for Skookum! Approx 400 feet and just under 700 lbs! We did it! Quite the project but it’s been haunting us for a few years. Nothing worse than rusty old chain staining the bow deck every time we anchor. The rust spray would just be everywhere sinking into our fibreglass!
We are so happy it’s done!

It’s not a bad idea to attach your anchor chain with 10’ of dyneema, just in case you find yourself in a bad situation and have to release your anchor chain in a hurry. Easier and faster to cut the dyneema! Thanks for sharing, watching from the fl. Keys

your anchor chain should be secured with a length of line, in advent having to release the anchor and chain from the boat, much safer and easier that a shackle

Good job that man, well done. first time for a while I didn't need to run to the kitchen and rustle something up.

Tagging is the only way to go. I also would have spliced another 100 feet of nylon to the D ring. Nice work!

I've had good luck with epoxy spray paint easily lasting a season for marking the chain. I also use a quality electrical tape(like 3M) to create a similar effect as your flagging tape. I feed a few inches of electrical tape through a link then double it back on itself (sticky side to sticky side) to create a ribbon that is easy to see. I noticed your swivel is attached to your anchor. Some swivels don't do well with the possible side loads that can be placed on them when the anchor resets when the wind changes direction in a blow. You may want to double check that your swivel is rated for attaching directly to the anchor vs. chain, swivel, shackle then anchor.

Bad practice to secure by shackle you should always have a length of rope that will reach the deck so in an emergency you can cut the rope and Bouy the loose Anchour - you will need an angle grinder!!!!

The rope is for.. If you have to release the chain in an emergency situation.. You cut the rope.. Put a new rope back on please
