Turning 500 layers of DENIM on a lathe

In this turning video I will be transforming denim into a truly unique hybrid vase with glass inserts. The denim was cut on my Xtool 40W diode laser to fit perfectly into a cylinder shape mould and each and every layer was soaked in resin. What all the 500 plus layers were in the mould and resin all cured it was time to shape on my lathe. Applied clear gloss lacquer finish to bring the materials alive.

I like this piece a lot. The slightly different colors of denim show up nicely in that subtle stripe pattern, and the vase shape is very attractive.

I watched a video of a guy, I think it was Blacktail Studios, make a table top out of denim. After watching the amount of trouble he had to go through I would never consider doing anything like that but I'm absolutely delighted that you have done it, well done 👍
