4 years later, I got my very fist edge unit. 530. On huge discount. And here I'm back to this video for Lama's Tips! Thank you for this!

Shane! Late to the party here and been sitting on the fence between the 530 and Bolt instead of my phone. After too long deciding I chose the 530 and spent the last 2 days setting it up wishing I'd gone the Bolt route instead. With a little better explanation from this video I have got most of everything set and bloody sure I won't be trying to reset it again.
Keep up the good work. We appreciate it.

Just ordered a 530 from Amazon on prime day. I enjoyed watching your video while I wait for delivery, very helpful thank you.

Hi Shane! So sweet that you remembered my newgarmindevice-day and made this video for me, very considerate of you!

OMG ! you just saved the day. I was here to figure out how to get rid of auto-lap and sharp bend notifications. You hit 2 of the the 6 suggestions. I did all of your suggestions, still not sure why I turn "Enable 1 second data recording" since you were suggesting I sheepishly followed.

Thanks! For those of us wishing our Power Taps back, extending these recommendations to save battery life, to make the phone connection optional (save on bluetooth consumption), how to add auto start (one can wish), make battery status more prominent, to dump weather warnings and all other alerts, would be really helpful.

Garmin has not stopped complicating their crap. I can rush into turns, on a moto using Navi6, and not be warned how sharp it is, but on a bicycle at 15mph??? Oh, and don't get me started on how unreliable Garmin's Nav6 is (just search).

Thx for this great Video. I am setting my new 530 up with your help right now. 8, 05km in Autolap seems to come from 5, 00 Miles

New to Garmin with the Edge 530, so even though I already set up enjoyed your tips on changing to 1 second (not sure what impact, but changed it), auto lap (though in the US so 5 mile marker was relevant), and sharp turn warning, which has been a bit annoying. Also learned how to "go back" by watching your video closely, which was very helpful! Now onto loading courses and turn by turn direction ... !

If you have the auto lap distance set to 5 miles Imperial, then the equivalent in metric is 8.05 km. That is what Garmin sets by default.

Awesome video! I was not able to finde a solution about the auto lapping and also about the indications that comes by default. This video help me so much. Thxxxx

I have to say, that leaving the option for sharp bends warnings is very helpful when going downhill 30-40mph down winding roads.

Plus another to add my 530 had autostop turned off so when I stop at traffic lights etc it still recorded - with putting on :) 👍

Finally caved in due to holiday deals and bought the 530! Thanks for this! Totally agree Garmin FAILED on the update when I connected to the desktop Express app. Still a few quirks like you've noted and will catch up on your other Edge 530 videos. Cheers Shane!

Love the finishing shot down Riverside Drive in Perth. Thanks for the info, great to get advice from a local. :)

My 1 cent tip - disable 'Lock On Road'. When enabled it forced the 530 to display your position as on the nearest road....even though you're not.

The 8.05 km auto lap equates to 5 miles so kinda makes sense as a default. Personally I set mine to 10 miles as it gives me an idea of how well I’m going.

I have a 830. Good tip on sharp bend warning (annoying) and auto lap (annoying too). I would also set auto pause on when stopped (I found it off on the new unit)
My brand new 830 too needed a SW update out of the box - which one would not expect.

Just got my 530 this morning, (trade in for a 10/11 year old EDGE 705 no less). Finding this really useful.
