HOW TO: NA & BOOSTED LS INTAKE TEST! CARB & EFI. TRUCK VS DUAL PLANE VS SINGLE PLANE (WHO IS BEST?)

WILL A CARBURETOR MAKE MORE POWER THAN EFI? WHICH LS INTAKE IS BEST? CAN I RUN A CARBURETOR ON AN LS? WHICH CARBURETED INTAKE IS BEST, DUAL PLANE OR SINGLE PLANE? WILL AN EDELBROCK PERFORMER RPM INTAKE MAKE MORE POWER THAN A VICTOR JUNIOR INTAKE? CAN I RUN A DUAL-PLANE INTAKE WITH BOOST? WHAT INTAKE MAKES THE BEST POWER UP TO 7,000 RPM? DOES A DUAL PLANE MAKE MORE LOW-SPEED TORQUE? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I COMPARED THE STOCK TRUCK (EFI) INTAKE TO A DUAL-PLANE, CARBURETED INTAKE (EDELBROCK PERFORMER RPM) AND A SINGLE-PLANE, VICTOR JR ON A MILD 4.8L. I ALSO COMPARED THE TWO CARBURETED INTAKES BOTH NA AND UNDER BOOST ON A MORE POWERFUL 4.8L LS!

I’ve been waiting for this vid forever. The carb intake keeps the somewhat classic look under the hood of a older car

Carb intakes on LS applications always impress me how well they run. I guess it’s the charge cooling from the way the fuel is administered to the engine as Richard always mentions. As far as running a carb on a street car though, always a dual plan IMO. Save the single plane stuff for the cars that only run at 7k+ RPM their whole existence.

Good test. I would sure be interested in the jetting you used on the 650 with dual plane for the dyno testing on a 4.8. Since a buddy is working a very similar NA engine in a jeep also with a 650.

On that small displacement engine, that’s a really good dual plane! Great test, thank you…

I prefer the look of the dual plane intake. Awesome video too buddy.

Wow I went with the single thinking it was better thanks Richard

It's a great time for the majority of small block owners, there is a variety of good 2-plan intakes to choose from nowadays.

Interesting that the first configuration with stock heads, truck intake and the 212/218 cam virtually mimics the old Fuelie 375 hp 327.

This is exactly what i needed to see for my ls4 build. I’m going to use the Holley sniper efi though. Thanks Richard!

Great video! For the boosted tests, did either manifold result in better fuel distribution? Thanks for all the info!

That air to water intercooler looks like the kind seadoo uses in some of there jetskis

Would like to see a test between dual vs single plane on a bit bigger engine like a 6.0 with a bigger camshaft like a stg 4 pro ls or a carbureted dedicated cam

Someone might have asked this already but would these results be the same with the 5.3, 6.0, 6.2, or larger ci ??? Maybe the dual-plane is able to move enough volume for the smaller 4.8 but as one goes up in Cubic inches the separation of the dual plane and the single plane starts showing itself? Not sure on my end.... I learn something every time I watch one of your vids Richard. Keep up the fine work you are doing!

I have a 6.0 with the dual plane, HP ecu Terminator tbi. Looks cool but makes no more power than a truck manifold. FAST makes about 50 more hp on 6.0.

We know. Single plane for hi rpm application. Dual plane for low speed torque

Avrage power should be the goal for the Avrage street car or truck it allways gets the win

Great information again Richard! You mentioned nitrous was ok on a dual plane. I have the edelbrock performer on my 6.0 and am adding the Nitrous Outlet weekend warrior kit. How much safely monitored will be safe? Up to 300hp? I was always told no more than 150 on a dual plane. What are your thoughts? SBE, PRC 2.5 243 -.020, 227-234 600 600 on a 111 Bald eagle na cam. Brawler 750 race carb. Yes, I have taken a lot of your advice. I was concerned with ptv clearance with your favorite comp 469 cam though. Keep up the great work and thank you again!

I’d be interested to see if you used a carburetor as just a throttle body and used fuel injectors on that dual plane intake and see if it still compares the same way to the truck manifold. Maybe the earlier fuel delivery is cooling the air charge. Especially under lower rpm and slower velocity in the runners. More time for the fuel to cool the air.... Am I nuts or is this possible?

👍💪 DP for me, except I bought a Victor 340sp to use with my 230/240 cam. 5.9 Will be a DOG. BUT THAT BAD BOY GONNA SOUND GOOD. 😂 😝

I love Edelbrock intakes. They have done such a good job but I feel somewhere the ball was dropped here. I mean we know they did dyno test on these things. What happened here!? Making a victor Jr was about pointless by the looks of this test. Now maybe with a large cubic inch motor the results would be different and that makes it worth production. At least I hope that is the case.
