Just because he paid your way while you were finishing school and working an unpaid internship doesn't mean you didn't make an agreement, it just meant, as long as you were in a relationship, he was willing to let that slide. If she'd said she NEVER paid rent, that's different. There was no reasonable expectation that she'd pay, then. But you started paying. That's an acknowledgment that you owe the money.
