You can kick Jorge Ramos out of your press conference (as Donald Trump infamously did in 2015), but you can never silence him. A reporter for more than 30 years, Ramos believes that a journalist's responsibility is to question and challenge those in power. In this compelling talk -- which earned him a standing ovation midway through -- Ramos explains why, in certain circumstances, he believes journalists must take sides.

A lot of people have zero accurate knowledge about immigration, yet they assume their opinion can have validity on this topic. Thank you Jorge, that's was a great truthful speech!

I feel like there's a shitload of people commenting on this video who know NOTHING about journalism and don't realize that journalists are essential for a functioning democracy.

What I like about Jorge Ramos, is that he keeps it 100!

Am I correct to assume that the reason why this video hasn't had many down-votes is because the undereducated people who usually come here to down-vote and vomit hateful nonsense in the comments section didn't bother to click the link to this video because of "with English subtitles" in the title?

For the most part, I agree with this guy. Journalists have the ability to enter into dangerous waters with a benefit that average people don't: thousands of eyes watching them. A typical citizen is likely to be brushed off by politicians or very wealthy groups, but a journalist has support and this makes venturing into the depths of power safer for them. They have the obligation to use this advantage transparently and truthfully when reporting on those who hold power.

I enjoyed the presentation very much and agree with the concept and great importance of questioning and challenging power. But, I wonder if journalist Jorge Ramos should have waited for his turn to be called to ask his question, although it’s probable that Donald Trump never would have chosen him to ask a question because, in the eyes of Donald Trump, Mr. Ramos is an immigrant, a Mexican, whom Donald Trump has labeled a criminal.

no, journalists have an obligation to report the facts in a non-bias way, whether that challenges authority or backs it up doesn't matter.

Why wasn't this more of an issue during the Obama administration, when the Obama administration would kill stories..
