Putin Replaces Defence Minister in Surprise Cabinet Shake-Up | Firstpost America

Days after being sworn in as the president of Russia for the fifth time, Vladimir Putin removed Sergei Shoigu as defence minister and replaced him with Andrei Belousov, the country's deputy prime minister. Now, Shoigu will be appointed secretary of Russia's Security Council. Meanwhile, Russia claimed it captured five villages near the Kharkiv region in Ukraine's north-east. Ukrainian troops said Russian soldiers "just walked in" as there was no first line of defence. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his troops were fighting Russian forces and he was rushing more troops to the region. He said Russia's ground operation was an attempt to draw Ukrainian forces away from the eastern frontlines.
