How to Use the Move Tool in Photoshop

This is the move tool in Photoshop. It’s at the top of your tool menu. You can also access it by hitting V on your keyboard.

With the move tool, you can select layers, move layers and copy layers.

To select a layer, hold command and click on the layer. If layers are stacked on top of each other, it will select the top one.

Holding command temporarily turns on auto selection. By checking it, you will select whatever layer you click in your artboard.

You can change your selection behavior from layer to group. Now, instead of selecting a layer, the tool selects a group.

To move a layer, click and drag. Once the layer is selected, it doesn’t matter where on the artboard you click. You can restrain your movement by holding down SHIFT while dragging. This will make your object move only at exact angles of 90 or 45 degrees.

To copy a layer, click and drag while holding down option. Hold option before you click. You can do this for a group of layers or for an individual layer.

There you have it, the move tool in Photoshop.

Constrain your movement, not restrain, and you misspelled restrain as "retrain" in the video, but it should have been "constrain" anyway. Was helpful though, thanks.
