StormBreaker Bomb

The Small Diameter Bomb II, or StormBreaker, is an American state-of-the-art, air-launched, precision-guided glide bomb.

Raytheon Company began its development in 2006 with the goal to develop a 250-pound bomb capable of identifying and striking moving targets from standoff distances of up to 45 miles away.

StormBreakers weigh around 204 pounds and are 69 inches long. They carry a 105-pound warhead and the latest guidance systems to consistently hit their objectives, even under the harshest weather conditions.

The US armed forces are currently testing the missile with several aircraft, including the F15E Strike Eagle and the F35 Lighting II. And by the time it is officially launched, it is expected to be the most innovative and lethal bomb ever produced by the US military.

A maximum 45 mile glide range using the 50, 000 feet service ceiling of an F35 would yield a glide ratio of about 4.75:1. Not to shabby.

Just a personal observation but could you turn down the backround music please? I have noticed lately they seem to me a bit loud and make hearing you harder. At least for me. 🙂

Great to see this come to fruition as an active program. Worked on the engineering development for more than 4 years, back when it was SDBII - retired now for almost ten years. It borrowed IR and laser tech from the cancelled NLOS-LS Army missile program, such as the uncooled IR camera and laser seekers along with IR autonomous target acquisition capability.

It's a shame the US Army didn't have the vision of the USAF; because these days, that NLOS-LS system, were it in the US inventory and provided to Ukraine, could turn the tide of battle against Russian armor in a week.

Keep them coming my friend! EVERY SINGLE video you post with narration like you do keeps me locked in every second I love it!!

One platform launches, from 45 miles away, and another platform can guide it to target. That's really cool.

Got to be one of my favorite weapons of all time

60 miles is beyond range of many AA systems, so technically speaking you can easily use it to destroy many AA systems without need to use Anti-radiation missile :o

Precision is the key to modern air-to-ground weapons. It does not matter how cheap unguided bombs are, nor how many are used, if they MISS the intended target.

StormBreaker delivery via drones seems like a good option to consider.

Just a helpful suggestion but could you please turn the music down. It makes it hard to hear you.

This is a great weapon for the F35. Never know what hit them with that stand off capability.

Topic Suggestion : AGM-114R9X (Hellfire).
It's the kinetic warhead variant of AGM-114. Instead of using explosives, the missile deploys large blades that slice and dice the target. Minimizing the risk of civilian casualties. I witnessed the aftermath of one of these missiles during an operation in Syria(CJSOTFAP) and let's just say.. they're quite effective.

The music was SO loud I couldn't hear the verbal narration at all, I had to turn on the closed captions to understand what was being said in the video. Please turn down the music s bit so the narration can be heard, thank you.

The US really is about to finally go Gen5 on their weapons, not just their aircraft and other hardware.

SBD... I've produced my fair share of those. They are extremely effective! Great stealth capabilities too!

I saw the Prototype versions of these being delivered to the u. S. S. Enterprise January 2002 when we got turned around for another tour after they hit the towers. They were a little bigger then.
