Magic has been Magnus’ defining feature from the moment he was born. It’s been a part of him since the beginning. He’s been hurt so many times and I’m starting to think that some of his past lovers may have only been with him because of his magic. He’s so insecure about himself. It’s hard for him to understand that someone could love him for him because of how much he’s been hurt, and maybe one of those reasons is because some people only loved him for his magic. Of course, that’s just my opinion on it, but to me it makes sense. Magic has been with him forever until he had to sacrifice it and he doesn’t know who he is without it. Alec telling him that he can’t lose him, that he fell in love with Magnus for who he is, not his magic, is what he needed to hear. Alec is truly his soulmate. I believe that Alec is probably the only one out his 17, 000 loves to not care about that part of him. I could be wrong, but that’s what I think about it. This ended up longer than I expected oof 😅

Magnus insecurity underline with all those love he had and lost. Centeries gone by, magic is the only eternal thing to him, the only thing that was always there for him. Its an 800 year old "friend" and part of his soul. He doesn't know who he is without it. Its not that he doesn't believe in Alec's love for him, its he doesn't love himself if he doesn't have the magic. How do you love someone you don't know?
