A far cry from the $2500 286 computer I had, 4 MHZ processor, and an 8 MB hard drive. "I'm NEVER going to use up 8 Holy crap I'm old.

Great video. Packed full of usefull details on benchmarks and specs without making us sit through the tedious benchmark tests. Thank you for the fantastic seemless edits. Well done.

As a rule, I don't trust ANY preinstalled operating system. I always blank the drive and install fresh. Too many prebuilts ship with loads of bloatware and even some have had viruses, I think it was Lenovo that had viruses on their new machines (not refurbs).

I'm surfing the net with my $160 KAMRUI Mini PC. Not a gamer, but its very fast and uses little power. 20 years ago this thing would be 2 grand so I am a happy camper with this price!

Thanks again for this video. I just finished MM6 on my “new” system a few days ago. It’s perfect for my needs and I can’t be happier with it.

A bit of note about these Wi-Fi adapters that are included on these PCs from Amazon. These are usually off-brand adapters that are commonly found on Amazon which often don't perform well and may have trouble maintaining connection. If you can't use Ethernet or can't put in a quality PCI-E Wi-Fi adapter, I would replace it with a name brand adapter like the TP-Link Archer T2U Plus. Also, these small adapters may not perform well with slow or weak Wi-Fi signals.

Another note is a lot of these renewed PCs often tend to include an off-brand SSD that are known to fail.

The GT 1030 may work with older games that can run on the GPU or less demanding games like The Sims 4 and Minecraft, but most modern games will likely not work on it due to their system requirements.

Definitely enjoy seeing content like this. It would be great if you could document future upgrades, especially the SSD. Thanks!

I've had an Optiplex for about 10 years that I bought second hand from an ex-government dealer. It's still kicking even after all that time and abuse from three kids. I rate these things.

I have been in IT my whole life, this is an amazing price. You could pay $124 just for the monitor. I hope they still have some left as I am getting one. And not that it matters to most home PC users, but windows pro allows you to be part of a domain. I will update after i get it. So, I just ordered it 4/10/24 for $136. Can't believe it comes with a monitor! Will update after I have a chance to set it up. Update 4/16/24: So far so good, I configured the wireless, ran windows updates, will soon be upgrading to 16Gb Ram. I will not be using this for gaming but rather home office work. I like starting with a fresh slate, I won't be adding alot of programs. I love the very small for factor, I was disappointed in only 2 memory slots, but for $20 (2 x 8GB ) 16GB total, that is all I need.

I have rescued many laptops from the scrap heap by replacing their "spinning rust" drive with a SSD and increasing the amount of RAM installed. The SSD would vastly improve your user experience on the desktop as well. Because of the slow speed of laptop hard drives, slower than desktops, many people will literally throw out laptop with a similar or somewhat better set of specifications to the desktop you feature in this video. Replace the spinning rust with an SSD, get the memory up to 8 Gig...and you have a laptop that will handle most of the tasks the majority of people need.

There's shops in Japanese cities that sell things like this, there's always a massive glut of identical PCs, tablets or even phones. A while back they had beige, pre-HDMI Wacom tablets with built-in screens from probably circa 2001-2006 for ¥3000! They must have been north of ¥300, 000 new

Another high value add Professor Hobo class...great timing too for me because my kid has been asking about a "gaming computer"

And to the immediate left of the DB-9 serial port, those are 2 Display Port ports. I see that the add-in card has a DVI port and, what looks to be, an HDMI port. Having a serial port can be handy for certain things.

Hey, Doc, yes indeed, I'd like to see more other stuff than only solar. I learned a ton of new info from just this one computer upgrade video. I use a PC to run my streaming and because I do a lot of writing. Before watching this video, I did not know there was a USB to upgrade WIFI. As the only carrier out in the sticks where I live is ATT, this WIFI USB just might make streaming better. Thank you!!!

Nice setup for kids (or anyone) to get into PC gaming or learning how to work on PCs or use one. Considering how long this PC can continue being useful over modern tablets definitely a good buy IMO, just due to the expandability using new parts to make it more useful.

I'd be interested in a similar video for some hefty video editing! Thanks man, top job as always.
