What can we say about this piece? 😍 Composed by John Williams for the movie Schindler’s List in 1994, it instantly became one of the most memorable and recognizable movie themes ever written. The music is gorgeous. And we are so grateful to the expert musicians from the Dover Quartet for helping us bring this arrangement to life. We wanted to give each player in the quartet a time to shine with a solo, and shine they did! They are all so darn amazing.

Special thank you to Casey Schmidt and Northwest Grip for his video expertise.

Brooklyn Duo:
Marnie Laird, piano
Patrick Laird, cello

Dover Quartet:
Joel Link, violin
Bryan Lee, violin
Milena Pajaro-van-de-Stadt, viola

BROOKLYN DUO BIO:

Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 1.2 million YouTube subscribers and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio. Their music has been used in numerous television shows, including Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, America's Got Talent, and most recently during the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

Members Marnie and Patrick Laird met while students at the same chamber music festival and were married in 2012. Both worked as professional musicians after graduating from the Eastman and Juilliard schools of music, respectively; Patrick as a founding member of popular cello rock band, Break of Reality, and Marnie as principal pianist of the New World Symphony. In 2014, on a whim, the couple recorded two covers and released them on YouTube. They were thrilled when Shakira herself took notice of their cover and tweeted about it. The boost from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on YouTube encouraged them to continue creating videos.

Today, Marnie and Patrick have released over 100 videos on their Brooklyn Duo YouTube channel and 10 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Ariana Grande. They also have a second YouTube channel, "Brooklyn Classical", which aims to introduce classical music to a larger audience through high quality, live video performances.

Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.”

When Spielberg showed the first cut to John Williams, Williams stood up and walked out. He came back and told Steven, "You will need a better composer than me". To which Steven replied, "I know but they are all dead." Then the maestro went to work and created this hauntingly beautiful melody that portrays pain. There will never be a John Williams again.

I visited the Oscar Schindler Factory Museum and Auschwitz just 10 days ago, listening to this song while thinking back on what I saw, it truly is a beautiful song that perfectly conveys the immense sadness of what happened to all those people, Jews, and Non-Jews. I pray that something like that will never happen again.🙏🙏

The red shirt the violist was wearing was an interesting touch. Of course it must be a reference to the girl in the red raincoat in the movie.

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Sometimes you watch art in motion and fall in love with people, in a way. And that's how I feel watching this. The man in the middle who looks at the others, oh how my heart reacted to that.

I play this on piano as well. As a Jew and a human being, I can’t play or listen to this without getting emotional. Can’t wait for the premier!

The discipline of these talented players is just incredible. No artificial unnecessary expressions of emotions through exaggerated facial and body movements and yet they are able to project so much emotion through their playing. Beautiful rendition of this song. John Williams would be proud.

Finally an arrangement where the violin does not take all the space, the cello got a decent part 👌

There are only a few pieces of music that bring tears to my eyes, and this is one of them. And this arrangement, with each string interleaving their "solos" effortlessly from one to another, all the while supported with the soft, yet strong tones from the piano... amazing. And you can see the emotion of the piece in your faces.

Bravo. This is one that lives up to Williams' vision

The music is fabulous, but something catches my attention, there are 10.4K visits and only 1.3K I like it .. that's not fair to all the people involved in this musical show. Let's support these people with our thumbs up always

When Steven Spielberg first screened Schindler's list for John Williams they were supposed to meet right afterwards to discuss the scoring. Williams was so moved by the film that he had to step out and collect his thoughts for a while before he could attend the meeting. When the meeting finally began he told Spielberg that it was such a great film that he needed a better composer to score the film. Spielberg responded, "I know. But they're all dead." Source: John Williams told this story at the concert he performed in Philadelphia in May 2016.
